Family travel to Lancaster Pennsylvania vacation and Dutch Wonderland theme park

  • Such gorgeous pictures! I’d love to visit Pennsylvania someday.

  • Your photos are so AWESOME! I want to go to Dutch Wonderland now.

  • What a fun place to go and spend the day! We live near a small Amish community, and you can go into their store and buy bulk items for cooking, and they have baked goods as well. They have some of the best food ever! We love shopping their!

  • Penelope, your photography is amazing! You captured so much in your photos that it told a story. I can’t decide which photo I love most!

  • Penelope

    Wow, thanks Liz!

  • What a great place to visit and how adorable that he fell asleep on his shoulders!

  • You may have answered this already, but I would love to know what camera you shoot with. Your photos are fantastic. I am looking to replace my camera. I would to love to know what your shooting with.

  • These photos are amazing Penelope, I’m kind of jealous 😉 Anyways. We would love to visit Lancaster County, It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

  • These pictures are amazing, Now I want to visit.

  • Penelope

Thanks :)These days I use the Panasonic Lumix G5 (it’s an older model I reviewed a couple years back here: http://penelopesoasis.com/2012/panasonic-lumix-g5-photography.html when I first took up photography) and it’s so light I ditched my Nikon dSLR and went back to it. Because I run around a lot with my kids I need something light or I never want to put it in my purse.

  • Wow, your photos really captured everything so well, like they already told the story. Love it.

  • When we visited Pennsylvania a couple years ago we did a buggy ride as well. I loved it.

  • Your pictures are so inviting, I feel like I’m right there. I bet those homemade treats taste amazing.

  • That party of the country is SO beautiful. I spent a couple of weeks doing some training in Lancaster back in the early 90’s. Where I was staying they were right by an Amish Pretzel making place, and they would send over all of their broken pieces for us to munch on 🙂 I remember being so giddy over seeing the horse and buggies on the roads because I thought it was so quaint!

  • Penelope

That was very kind of them, why be wasteful? A corporation would have tossed the broken pieces because giving them to you meant you wouldn’t have to go over and buy whole ones. I wouldn’t mind a little more of an Amish mindset around the country 🙂

  • Your post with all of its beautiful pictures took me down memory lane. I miss going to Amish country!! I can remember going with my both of my parents there many times over.

I’m still trying to figure out how to get real maple syrup for review when the companies I really want to work with aren’t on the Internet.

I’m glad you all had a great time!

  • Penelope

Oh my gosh, isn’t New England maple syrup the best? I have a friend who brings me some from Vermont and it’s awesome!

  • Looks like so much fun! And I agree with Liz, Penelope… you are an amazing photographer!

  • Wow, beautiful photos. Lanacaster is on our list of places to go. I’ve seen tons of articles on it and it looks great. WE love Amish communities since we live in one:)

  • This looks like a wonderful place to visit. I love all your pics!

  • Wow, you really wore them out! Looks like they had an amazing time with train rides and amusement park rides!

  • It looks like such a wonderful time so peaceful and fun!

  • My kids would love that amusement park. I think their favorite part would be the no adults allowed part. I appreciate that there are things that are age-appropriate outlets for fun.

  • I would love to visit Lancaster some day… I’ve heard things about this part of the U.S. but your photos really bring it to life. I know my son would love Dutch Wonderland!

  • What a great family getaway and (as usual) beautiful photos! I can not get enough of your little boy’s up close and personal encounter with the horse.

This Is Where I Leave You- The Book Club #TIWILY #TIWILYbookclub

Don’t you love it when a book is not only engaging, but long after you read it you keep thinking about it? I’m having book hangover and unable to pick up another book to read because I’m still lost in the world of This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper, a New York […]

  • This sounds like such a great book. I’m traveling quite a bit in September and need to pick up a copy to read while I’m on the plane and in the airports!

  • You read that so fast! I’m bringing it with me on the plane tomorrow so I will have a good long time to enjoy it!

  • I haven’t read the book but it seems to have spurred on quite a discussion for you. The cast of actors will surely bring the movie to life.

  • I saw the preview for this movie the other day. After seeing that and reading your review, I have got to get a copy of the book and read it before the movie comes out. It looks like a great book to get lost in.

  • Penelope

We went to Pennsylvania this last weekend and I stayed up late each night reading it…some parts are What??! and other parts are Hahahaha! (I can’t wait to hear your opinion on a certain part when it’s done, but I don’t want to spoil it- it was WEIRD!)

  • I can’t wait to read this book and see this movie. It sounds so utterly good.

  • We had a great book club going. We only read books that were going to be released as movies in the near future so that way we had an excuse to get together twice. As our kids got a little busier, my girlfriends and I let our book club go. I’m inspired to restart it though!

  • This would be a fun movie to watch, I would try to read the book before watching though 🙂

  • Penelope

I’m with you, I miss that girl time- we let ours go a lot too 🙁

  • i haven’t read the book. I’d like to read it and see the movie.

  • I’ve been hearing a lot on this book, it sounds like a great read.

Creating A Sitting Area For Our Patio

We have a nice backyard but a lovely patio area for guests to sit in just wasn’t something we were able to get together in our first year of living in our new home. We had a bunch of mismatched patio chairs and tables that we sort of inherited from parents who long ago bought […]

  • I need some new outdoor furniture and working on getting an outdoor kitchen space. I’m afraid it may be next summer, though.

  • I was so happy I found a nice wicker set at a garage sale. I had to fix it up but it looks great now.

  • These look similar to the lounge type chairs we have on our back patio by the pool. Glad you were able to get something new.

100% All Natural Family Adventure In Gulf County

We are a family that typically vacations once a year, but now that our children are no longer babies, we want to take family trips more often. We look for family vacation ideas that are great for a family of four with two children under five, and we want to relax, be outdoors, and see […]

  • This looks like such a great vacation destination. Thank you for this idea.

  • Seems like a wonderful place to visit for a family vacation. We love anything near the water so this sounds fantastic!

  • I love these pics from Gulf County. I’d love to visit there.

  • I would love to visit Gulf Co. Florida, especially after seeing these photos!

  • It looks so beautiful!

  • Gosh, I see these pictures and really get homesick. I lived in FL 6 years. Yeah there are times I’m glad I’m back up north but I loved “almost” everything about Florida. I sure don’t miss hurricanes though.

  • Looks like a fabulous way to spend time. Gorgeous views.

  • I can see why the sunsets are so highly regarded; they’re absolutely beautiful. I’d love to take my family to Florida.

  • Ok, that totally looks like a lot of fun! I have to visit.

  • I’d love to travel more with my children. I felt pretty bad the both times I had traveled this summer without my children. My son was so upset! One was for a cruise for couples and another one was a trip for two that I had won, so I couldn’t take my children. Florida is one state that I wouldn’t mind visiting again, especially with my family. It’s so gorgeous there!

  • We’ve traveled most of Florida but that is one part we have not seen yet. It’s definatly on my to do list!

  • Again, your pictures are amazing. I have never been to Florida, but I would love to visit!

  • We have wanted to visit FL for a while now, it would be so amazing!

  • You can’t beat Florida! There are always so many different things to do.

  • Looks like the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

  • What a glorious location that is! I definitely want to visit!!!

  • We’ve pretty much only stuck to the ‘touristy’ areas of Florida when we’ve visited. Now that our daughter is grown and theme parks aren’t the main attraction for us, I’d love to visit gulf county to see what it has to offer! It sure looks beautiful from the pictures.

  • I would love to go there and soak up some sun. The beaches in Florida are really nice.

  • That picture by the water is breathtaking! I would love love love to visit their, it looks and sounds like a fun place!

  • We’d love to visit FL again, it’s been awhile and the littlest ones have never gone.

  • All three of my kids are huge beach fanatics, so that aspect alone would have our family on board. It definitely looks like there are a lot of fun ways to spend your time in Gulf County.

  • Florida is great for the whole family. There is a lot to do, especially in Orlando. And the beaches are awesome.
