What a great idea to get fun school supplies. When I let my daughter choose silly prints, they make her smile whenever she has to use them.
Picking out school supplies was a big deal for me as a kid. I remember how fun it was to take all those fun supplies to school!
I agree with the lunches. Bentos weren’t a big thing when our daughter was in school, but those Lunchables were. So I would buy or even make my own on occasion and the smiles and thank yous I got when she was home at the end of the day were priceless. I know that they made her afternoons at school better too just because those little lunches perked up her disposition and attitude. Crackers & Cheese….who knew?! lol.
Being involved in everything is so important. I’ve worked in the schools on and off for many years helping children that need help in all areas. Parents need to work with children so they can enjoy school and understand what is being taught. I really wish I could get into making bento lunches for Zoe because they are so much fun.

My daughter loved going shopping for back to school. My son – not so much. Not sure anything can make a teenager like school.

As an empty nester, I don’t have to worry about getting school stuff anymore. But I do get some for my grandkids.
These are all really good tips. My kids and I love to shop for back to school supplies. My husband gets frustrated because we always have a house full of supplies.
In fact, our local Walmart had Preschool workbooks available for 3.00 which is a HUGE savings. I snagged one up for Zeva for her to do with my mother-in-law (she does Preschool with the kids and then I take over in K.)
My mom worked at my elementary school, so I was pretty spoiled having my mom around all of the time. Showing you care about their school makes such a difference in their attitude about school.
I was at my son’s elementary school so much that the ladies in the office would kid and say I should be on the payroll. 🙂 It’s weird now that my son is in a much smaller Christian middle school and parents are need no where near as much. I have mixed feelings about it. 🙂

it was great just to see my 10 year old go to school this year. He had Meningitis and encephalitis this summer but was out of the hospital and well enough to start school on time. He does have to do shorter days and is behind a bit but we will worry about catching up later

My mom and I went into Staples recently to get some less than exciting office supplies. I was blown away by how cute their selection is. I bought a couple rolls of patterned duct tape for my daughter just for fun. I’ll be taking the kiddos back to refill school supplies as needed throughout the year.
I don’t have any children, but I have a nephew that would love a ninja turtles backpack!
I remember my son’s first day of pre-K…he didn’t want to stay and for 4 weeks he would hide under the table and finally we convinced him it wasn’t so bad and he just blossomed.

My favorite memory of my child’s first day of school, is when I sent my son off to his first day of school ever, he didn’t want me to leave, it was so cute. Being able to share a new beginning and step with my son was awesome. But now he is in first grade this year, and when I took him this year to school he didn’t even notice I was there or anything, he was totally independent, and a lot more social. This year was my favorite back to school. My son started first grade in a new school and I was able to drop him off, give him a hug, and send him in to start a new year. My favorite memory is funny but not funny. My house is on a busy road, so the 1st day of school on his way home, my sons bus driver had to pass our house to turn around (so he’d be dropped off in our driveway instead of on the side of the busy road) My son started bawling his eyes out to a 5th grader next to him about how they forgot to drop him off. The bus driver had to explain why my son was crying after he got off the bus his first day of school. LOL! So sad he was scared, but so cute. What an awesome story to tell him. My memory isn’t necessarily a good one, but it’s one we won’t forget! It was my sons first day of 2nd grade, and he was NOT excited to go. We were at the bus stop and as soon as he saw the bus coming down the road, he started to get really upset. Crying, whining, and ended up getting so upset that he threw up! On the street! I wasn’t about to put him on the bus then! So we went back inside, had a good talk about it, and then I brought him to school. He never did it again. I don’t know what upset him that much, but he seemed to be totally over it the next day!

My son upon entering 1st grade after a break from Kindergarten decided that we should do school always including summers because “that’s where we learn more!” which is apparently still pretty cool. I’m glad his teachers are instilling a love of learning! Orange is his favorite color so he might like the one from High Sierra.
My Kindergarten memory is quite fresh in that my only child just started Kindergarten two weeks ago. In the morning, right before we left the house, she put her hand on my shoulder and said, “Don’t miss me too much mom, I’ll be back”. It was the saddest/happiest moment in my life.

Whenever I do get a new car, I assure you my new car face will be giddy beyond belief! I am so over the one I’m driving. Actually I was over it the moment I got it.
Buying a new car can be a challenge. I remember buying one three years ago. Good luck with your decision.
I feel the same way! My husband says “I’ll watch the kids and you check out the car” and I get totally scared at the prospect.
I haven’t seen cars.com before. I’ll check them out when I’m ready for a new car.

I adore that line of clothes and sleepwear. The Gymboree pj’s were my favorites when my babies were little. I’ll be picking some up with an Eric Carle book for a baby shower gift!
I love Gymboree clothes. I can remember being a small little girl and my Dad taking me there to go buy clothes. Wow does that show how long they’ve been in business or what? They provide quality clothes at a reasonable price.
I really like this line of clothes. I’ve bought some for my grandkids.

I absolutely love Eric Carle and would totally wear this merchandise myself. I’m surprised there hasn’t been apparel modeled after his books before now.
