Don’t Let Big Home Repairs Disrupt Your Life {Guest Post}

This is a guest post by Jennifer Smith Making over your house can be disruptive. Even projects that look small can require a big effort and can really disrupt your family’s life. It gets even worse for big projects, like putting on an addition, renovating or remodeling parts of the house (especially the kitchen) or […]

I had to work on “One thing at a time with my hubby”… he finally does that now. 🙂

  • These are some really great tips! Thanks for sharing!

  • I’ve been renovating my house for years, and definitely agree that you need a haven from the chaos.

  • We just do one small project at a time, it’s so much easier that way!

  • Great tips! Just remodeling our master bed and bath area was a big enough pain. I could not imagine having to deal with an entire house being worked on.

  • That’s a great idea to rent pods or something during renovations!

  • All great tips! It was rough when we had a bathroom remodeled.

  • Doing one thing at a time is such a good idea. Otherwise it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

  • Maryann

It never fails that something you think will take x amount of time always takes 2 times that. You need to be prepared.

  • Penelope

    This is the truth!

  • In my past life in the remodeling industry, I would often hope people would move during the process since it was so disruptive.

  • small projects is the name of the game in our house. If I give my hubby a To Do list at once he never really gets anything done

  • Great advice!

  • Mellisa

We are definitely a one thing at a time type family.

  • Great tips – we want to buy a home and diy for everything..

  • Wonderful tips!

  • I love the safe zone idea. We hope to build one day and I will definitely want aplace to escape some days I am sure:)

  • I wish I had more money and motivation to invest in my home. Since my house was built in the 50’s, there are things that could use a remodel.

  • Great tips! I would like to add, do it in a timely manner. We are going on 8 years for our basement 🙁

  • Great tips.

  • Great tips, we have only rented so haven’t really done many repairs.

  • Leilani

Luckily, I live in an apartment where I don’t ever have to worry about repairs.

  • Doing one thing at a time is definitely key. Trying to do too many projects simultaneously will just break the bank and cause undue stress.

  • Those are great tips. We have so many small repairs to make it is hard to knoe where to start!

  • Repairs are no fun! Great tips.

  • great tips but I too live in an apartment so I don’t have to worry about this yet.

Letters To My Son

To My Little Love Bug, It was almost one year ago that you entered our lives, a month early, a fragile and sweet little creature. You only recently took your first steps, and every day your tender smiles and squeaking attempts to speak amuse and delight us. We are so lucky to have you. You’ve […]

How sweet! I still haven’t written letter to either of my children even though there’s a spot for it in their baby books.

  • Ashley - Embracing Beauty

That is so beautiful! I have to agree with you, I don’t plan my life like I use to. I enjoy each day instead of planning for the future. Well said!

  • so well said. so sweet and heartfelt. thought of my two sons when reading this. there is such a wonderful feeling seeing two little guys become best buddies (and working through the sibling rivalry thing). my two are 12 and 15. when they’re happy, it’s magic. when they’re rivaling (is that really a word?), it’s, ugh, well, not.

like your meme. think i’ll repost the poetic meme i did for them a couple of years ago. let me know what you think (when you’re not slammed with life now that it’s 2x normal!!)

again, great post. always like visiting your side of the web!

  • Maryann

    What lovely sentiments.

  • Such a beautiful letter. It makes me think of when my boys were little like that.
My favorite line is the one about his mile long eyelashes. My youngest has those – very blond – I always wanted to put mascara on them. TeeHee
Enjoy every moment with them, they grow up too fast. HUGGLES!

  • I can’t believe he’s almost a year old. Time goes by way too quickly.

We all have our own iPhones and iPads now. My hubby gave me his iPad when he got a new one, and we bought our son an iPad (engraved with his name) for Christmas. And my hubby gave my son his older iPhone (no phone connection or texting). So we’re all connected. I do need to get my son the Defender case for his iPad, though.

  • Need one for Android!! OUr kids can’t keep their hands off of our stuff!

  • I’m planning on getting one for my iPad. Right now it’s taking a beating and my smallest is getting into it.

  • On the otterbox defender case for the Iphone 4, is the belt clip removable, not the overall case just the belt clip part?

  • Penelope

yes, you can take off the clip without removing the otterbox

  • Gotta love the protection the Otterbox products provide.

  • What do you mean “when you get them back?” It’s over. They belong to the kids now. 😉

  • LOL! You will never get them back from your son – unless you buy him his own!

  • My hubby has one and its great!

  • You’ve got all the cool gadgets! I now have an iPhone and hubby finally converted from his Blackberry and then got an iPad too. Now, we’re looking at the iPad mini. We’re turning into techies. Who knew!!

  • I really need to get one of these. I cringe every time the boys pick up my iPad.

  • What a cutie – we need something for our ipad.

  • I have an iPad and an iPhone and tile floors. I have been wanting to get some OtterBox cases for my gadgets too!

  • Yes, the defender cases are awesome!!!

  • I definitely need to get one of these!

  • I know my Otterbox case has saved my phone on more than one occasion.
