This post brought to you by Upromise by Sallie Mae. All opinions are 100% mine. Parents want to help their children, and ideally we’d love to be able to help them with college costs as well, as much as we can. Upromise by Sallie Mae is a rewards program where shoppers can earn cash back […]

At some point in our makeovers, we knew we’d be getting our boys new beds, and I specifically wanted a captain’s bed with trundle for little man. He sometimes still rolls off the bed, and now he has someplace to safely land. It also doubles as an extra bed for when the boys want to […]
-
Love the bed- and the bedding! My son has a raised bed with bookcases & drawers underneath- having that extra storage space is so nice!
-
Love the bed, that would of been perfect for my boys, so much space saved with the drawers underneath!
-
I would love to get my daughter a trundle bed. I think they are great for sleepovers!
-
I thought about buying a bed like this for my son in the past since they do create a lot of space!
-
A bed like this with drawer space underneath would be amazing for each of my girls since they still share a bedroom. They would also go crazy over having their own individual bookcase/headboard space!
-
I’m expecting my boys to want to share a room for a while (they have a lot of fun together) so I thought this would be a great way to do that too.
-
Growing up I always had the most basic bed, I didn’t even know such cool beds existed (and my son LOVES it, he went ahead and stacked all his book on it so it’s overloaded with picture books now 🙂 – it’s wonderful)
-
I love the bed. What’s the Perry thing on top?
-
We went back and forth and back and forth on whether or not to get a trundle set up for our sons … we opted for a bunk bed/loft system but your little guy’s bed is making have a wee bit of buyer’s remorse. LOVE the blue comforter.
-
That’s a nice bed! We’re looking for a new bed for my son and I seriously think we may go with something similar to this.
-
It’s an iPod player…he doesn’t have an iPod though (it was a gift) so it’s just his Perry, since he loves Phineas and Ferb 🙂
-
That is really cute. I love the drawers underneath! That blue with the wood looks really nice!
-
This is such a neat bed!
-
Our daughter’s first bed was also a captain’s bed with the drawers underneath (no trundle bed though). We eventually upgraded her from the twin to a queen when she was 11 because her bedroom was also used as the guest room when we had company. I think she’s going to have difficulties going back to the narrow twin when she goes to her dorm room in fall, LOL!
-
This looks like the perfect bed for him, not a “child” bed but still has everything a child needs STORAGE!
-
We love trundle beds. They are such space savers. We had ours custom made by a carpenter and our children still managed to destroy them. 🙁 So disappointing.
-
I love the storage in there, the boys could really use these. Now that they are older, I was thinking of getting rid of the bunk beds and getting them something like this.
-
My boys are already jumping all around, and I heard the first “crick”…so they’ll probably tear it apart 🙂 It’s made from pine which is a softer wood, so I’m hoping it lasts at least a few years!
-
Certainly a nice bed that will last him for many years.
-
That’s very similar to the bed we are looking to get for Zoe. She has friends and her cousin stay all the time now so we need an additional place for them to sleep.
-
I would have loved something like this when my son was younger… sure could use the extra storage. Your son definitely has a very handsome bed! 🙂
-
I love Captain’s beds, esp with the trundle. The storage space is great, esp for kids’ rooms.
-
You’ll get years and years of use from that and I love all the drawer storage! Cute bedding too!
-
I could appreciate this
-
My son had a captains bed when he was growing up. It was so easy to make up, and I loved the drawers underneath. He had the smallest room in the house, but because his bed was a twin and had storage under it, he actually had more space than his sisters did because they shared the larger bedroom. I love the color you chose for Little Man’s comforter set. Seth had his walls painted gray and we got his bedding in gray/burgundy.
-
One of my daughters has a Captain’s Bed and loves it. That extra storage is awesome!!
-
Love all that storage space and that reversible quilt is a great idea to easily change up the look!
-
I love the drawers underneath for added storage. Such a great looking bed.
-
I love furniture with built in storage that still has clean lines!
-
love the blue so bright and so perfect and certainly will grow with him.
We’ve been looking at captains beds for the boys for quite some time but can’t decided on that or a bunk bed
-
For long term, a captain’s bed is probably better…we wish we were in a financial position that we could have gotten the full size (but we’d need to buy a bigger bed, plus a new mattress, sheets, etc)…boys probably would appreciate a full size in their teen years.
-
How cute! Does he love it yet?
My youngest, who used to sleep alone, now either sleeps with me or big sister. Lately she’s been with bib sis, which saves my sanity, but I will be so happy to see her finally go back to her own bed!
-
What a great bed. Looks very well made with lots of storage.
-
Oh this looks like a totally awesome bed and mighty comfortable. I need a King size one for my husband and I! We need a new bed something fierce. These pictures make me want to curl up on this bed and go to sleep.
-
We want a kind bed for ourselves too, but it’s a bit down the list of makeovers for us…so many other renovations and decor makeovers to do first!
-
Love that bed! All the storage in the head board and underneath with the drawers is perfect for all the stuff kids have!

So another milestone has come to pass, and now there are no longer any babies in this house. As I wipe away a little tear, I still marvel at my two little gentlemen…they are my little Thing 1 and Thing 2, and this week we celebrated our Thing 2’s second birthday, with a house full […]
-
Aww, happy birthday to your little one! It looks like he had a fun party. 🙂
-
Awww he’s too cute. Happy birthday to him!
-
I seriously can’t believe he’s 2 already. Man oh man does time ever fly!
-
I love the costume… wish my son was young again to wear it. Sigh. Happy Birthday to your lil’ guy!
-
Such cute items!! Happy Birthday to your son!
-
I know, no more babies, wahhh! It makes me want to consider having another, I miss it (and I have to keep reminding myself I NEVER slept!)
-
That looks like such an adorable party. I love the cake and his little costume. Happy Birthday to him!
-
LOVE the poem- and what a fun party! Happy Birthday Thing 2!
-
What a fun party!! I love the costume that is really cute! The family picture is darling!
-
Oh the children must have had so much fun. I hope Grandpa’s back is okay from all those horsey rides! You guys should hire him out 😉
-
How cute are they!! Happy Birthday Thing 2!
-
What a great birthday theme! Looks like your son’s party was a blast!
-
How adorable, the blue wig definitely completes the costume! Your family is just gorgeous!
-
What a fun birthday party theme! Kids grow up too fast!
-
Happy Birthday to your big guy 🙂 It looks like it was a perfect birthday party.
-
Oh my goodness your boys are cute, but I have already told you that! Love the cute party theme you had, too much fun!
-
Penelope, your family is beautiful. What a fun party, and grandpa looks like he went home tired and sore!
-
WOW I remember when you were pregnant I can’t believe he is TWO!! Happy Birthday to him.
-
I love the Thing 1 & 2 theme of the party so cute and not the typical.
-
Awww — such a cute theme and ADORABLE Thing 2. 😉
-
Wow – that is one serious shindig you put together! Poor, poor grandpa but the kids looks like they loved it. They grow so, so, so so, fast!,
-
What a cute birthday theme! And I love the family pic!
-
What a fun party! I love your theme, perfect for you. And a late happy birthday to your little man!
This post brought to you by Organic Choice. All opinions are 100% mine. Last year was the first time I ever really gardened in my own yard (because it was the first time I ever had my own yard) and I enjoyed growing my own salad garden in a raised bed garden kit. This year, […]
-
I’m getting ready to plan my garden, too! Someone recommended the Burpee Garden App to help you plan and know when to plan what for your area.
-
I can’t wait for our garden to be ready to plant and start seeing produce!!! Nothing like fresh veggies!
-
I will just have a flower garden… Time to get to the store and start planting.
-
This is the first year in so long not having a Spring garden, I have used Miracle Gro for many years!
-
I don’t plant flowers anymore since I have a black thumb, but I can’t wait to plant a small vegetable and herb garden this spring!
-
We’ve been planning too. Wishing for a greenhouse and tractor though! Not to mention the ground to thaw and the snow to disappear…
-
I got so caught up putting in new flower beds last year that I ran out of steam when it came time to expand my veggie garden. This year I want to add another raised bed & a spiral herb garden.
-
You are so going to love the fresh veggies. If you like and have room for zucchini you should plant one – believe me only one will be enough. Tomato plants are great too. My girls love munching on grape tomatoes straight from the plant.
-
I actually love fried zucchini, and I didn’t know a single plant produces a lot. My dad grew zucchini (and I never checked that particular plant out) and we loved eating the produce from it!
-
What is a spiral herb garden? If you blog about it I want to come check it out.
-
Do you have space for a greenhouse? That would be pretty awesome.
-
I can’t wait until I move out of my apartment (hopefully this summer and into a house, because that is one thing that I miss: gardening! I never attempted growing herbs, such as basil (my favorite), fruits, or vegetables, but it’s definitely something I’d love to do someday. 🙂
-
I really wish I had a green thumb!!! I want to grow a garden so badly.
-
I am excited for you to share your recipes with food from your garden!!
-
Good luck with your garden! I hope you get lots of goodies this year.
-
I’m going to give a try at a Spring garden this year. I’ll definitely want to use these organic products.
-
In the twenty years we’ve been married, I’ve never had a garden. I’ve actually found it unnecessary since we’ve always had friends and family to share with us 😉
-
My dad is one of those people…he grew a lot of tomatoes and shared them with family and friends, so each year every family would received almost two dozen fresh, delicious, enormous red tomatoes 🙂

I am SO glad our daughter earned herself a full tuition & fees scholarship and got a semester stipend to go with it. It took so much pressure off of us to figure out how we were going to help foot the bill for a 4 year degree. That being said, now the pressure is all on her to get good grades up so she keeps the scholarship 🙂
I went through that too, I had a scholarship and had to study hard to keep up my GPA…that kept me in line all those college years 🙂
I was fortunate to have a full-ride to my private university … not sure how I would have afforded it otherwise…. there wasn’t such a thing as UPromise then!
I completely forgot about my Upromise account! Thanks for the reminder. OF course I can’t remember my login information because it’s been so long!
I wish I would have gotten the same when I was younger. Student loans are horrific!
WE have a Upromise account with both children. We only have a couple hundred in it for like ten years, but every little bit helps!
Put three children through college, still managing two of their accounts. Would love to let it go!
This is one area I would like a do over on. My son will be a senior in high school next year.
It’s great that there are things like this to help families. College is insanely expensive. :/
The only thing I love more than shopping online is earning cash back! How wonderful to be able to consider your child’s education.
I’d never heard of this program before. What a great way to save up for such an important thing little by little.
I really wish I’d taken more advantage of that when my kids were younger. I started way too late, and it really adds up if you start early.
This is a wonderful program. I wish they would have had this when my son was born.
such a great program and with college rates climbing every little bit helps
This could really add up! I need to set up an account.
The cost of college is outrageous and this sounds like just the thing to help defray the cost.
Sounds like an awesome way to save up for college.
Upromise hasn’t really given me a whole lot of money through the years, but I can see where the concept is good. The cost of college is crazy!!
What a wonderful program!
My son is only 5 but it’s time I started looking towards his future..
With the rising cost of college, I don’t think we’ll be able to afford it without help like this program.
I just checked our Upromise account the other day and was impressed with what we had in there.
I so hope our son can get full scholarships when he goes to college. I know I don’t want him to have to get student loans and pay for 10 years after he graduates, like I did.
I think it’s wonderful for parents to be able to earn money to use for tuition. Schools are so expensive!
I don’t really know what my daughter’s future holds. No matter where her progress is at, having a fund to help her get started would be great.
Great post, lots to think of when college rolls around. We put three children all through college. My two boys are now paying their own college bills which we love. Still paying for my daughters 🙂
How many children do you have?
We have three. 28, 26 and 22
Wow, you look tooooo young!;-)
Thank you Penelope!
We have a Upromise account that I had forgotten about. I wish we had the opportunities to add to it here like we did in FL. I just don’t see many places that accept upromise around here.
Florida has a prepaid college program. I have both children signed up under this.
