Get In The Frame

Sometimes you discover things that you didn’t realize you needed until you tried them, and then you wondered how you managed without their convenience all this time…like the lightweight monopod I was sent to review this last week. It not only helps me get a steadier photo, but also lets me (finally) get into some pictures. And momtogs everywhere know, we are usually never in the picture. Isn’t it time to change that?

I knew I needed a monopod, for all those lowlight shots that look a little soft because of motion blur from lower shutter speeds. The QuikPod Monopod is a collapsible monopod for dSLR cameras that helps me achieve sharper photos, and I can tote it along in my bag, extend it to capture myself doing whatever I’m doing, at any time, and from any angle.

This aluminum monopod is light and versatile (it extends from 18 to 53 inches), and I love that it doubles as a sort of extendable arm so I can take selfies and finally be in some pictures with my family. There is a little mirror so we can pose ourselves (since no one is on the other side of the camera to guide us) and we can pretty much shoot from any crazy angle we want- love this monopod! It’s great for my Flip and my lighter dSLR, but I would definitely avoid trying to balance very heavy cameras and larger zoom lenses on this particular model (there are different models depending on need, and my QuikPod dSLR holds up to a max of 8 lbs).

And of course, I got in the frame!

  • A professional photographer I know uses a monopod — I can’t remember now exactly why he loved it but I know he used it for wedding photography.

I have a flip cam and would love to have one of these pods. Thanks for sharing.

  • I want one of those!

  • I love that it has a mirror so you can adjust it correctly. I spent at least 15 minutes trying to get mine right the other day without a mirror.

  • I need to start looking at something like this, since I want to start shooting more video & have no one to hold the camera

That’s pretty neat – I’m already looking at accessories for the new mirrorless camera I purchased a couple of months ago.
