That’s interesting information. I thought the NE would have a higher rate, especially in the New York area.

  • Great tips, thanks.

  • Stefanie

    Interesting info..

  • Great infographic!

  • It’s so very scary.. 🙁

  • This is a great info graph and article. As a student I was surprised that I’m a more likely target but at least I’m home from 10am-3pm more often then not.

  • I live in Houston and THIS WEEK our car was burglarized…nothing was taken because I don’t keep anything in it … but still!

    UGH.

  • Wow, looking at that infographic puts it all in perspective. So scary!

  • Rachel at managedmoms.com

Good post with lots of interesting stats. Thanks for sharing these tips that can help us keep our house safe 🙂

  • Great tips and information!

  • So happy to see I’m in the 11% area! We still have a house alarm though. You can never be too careful. Great infographic!

  • This is SO interesting to read. We’re the corner house and I always felt that we were a bigger target for whatever reason. I’m happy that it shows on this infographic I was wrong. I was also surprised at the most common time being between 10am-3pm. I would assume in the middle of the night was the most popular time frame.

  • Thanks for the information!

  • nicole @WriteSpell

Great post. It’s scary -but an unfortunate reality.

  • Anne - Mommy Has to Work

Interesting! We have an alarm, but never turn it on!

  • After what happened to Lee, this is such great information. Thanks

  • Some great information. Thanks!

  • My apt. in Chicago was broken into. It was awful and scary.

  • monique

Of couse, I live in the south with the worst crime #s. Figures. There’s someone here at our house 24/7, so that’s probably helpful. It does make me nervous to have woods int he back in our house, though.

  • Wow! Crazy Statistics!

  • Stefani

    Thanks for sharing this info.

  • Yikes, those are scary stats. But good to know.

  • wow, that’s scary since I live in Florida. Thankfully Orlando isn’t in the top 10 (probably 11 though, lol) cities of burglaries.

  • Penelope

I’m surprised it’s not higher in NYC (but maybe it’s just not fully reported)

  • Penelope

We’ve actually had two cars stolen already (thus getting the motion detector lights…since then no more stolen cars) and our neighborhood has seen quite a few burglaries over the years.

  • Penelope

I know, I was thinking of her when I wrote it!

  • Penelope

Oh my goodness Anne, turn it on, lol… You don’t want any unpleasant surprises when you return home 😉

  • Penelope

One of the houses we are looking at buying is on a corner and as a result of seeing this infographic, I’m MORE interested in purchasing it (the rest are mid-block)

  • I had my house broke in, and it was the worse feeling. The things that were taken were replaced, but the feeling took a long time to go away.

  • Of course I would live in the area with the highest percentage of burglaries. Definitely makes you think.

  • So glad to see that Las Vegas is finally not on a list like this.

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • Wow I can’t believe that our region is so low at 11%. Some great tips too!

  • So scary! Thanks for sharing the info. My mother in law was robbed a couple years ago and she lost all of her very old and very expensive jewelry. 🙁

  • Thanks for all these really great tips. We’ve never been a victim and I hope we never are.

  • 1stopmom

I did not know so many burglaries happened in the South.

  • Jenn

so much for the quiet, sleepy South. Wow! I had no idea.

  • We were robbed when we lived in LA and it was during the time I was at work. I was only out of the house from 9-1:30 each day and we were robbed some time during that small window of time. They even used our luggage to neatly transport our belongings.

  • Loved the info…I knew I lived in the wrong place.

  • We make sure we lock up everything important – so in the chance that we do get our home broken into – they’ll have that much harder of a time getting at the important stuff.

That infographic is informative and scary at the same time!

  • that’s what I was thinking too.

And btw, I had a dream (the very night I read this) that our house was broke in to. I woke up in a sweat 🙁

  • Penelope

Oh my gosh, they even used your luggage?? I’m speechless!

  • Great tips!

  • abby

All these safety tips are great!

  • Abbot

You have great information about keeping your family safe from burglars. That infographic is easy to understand. But i can’t imagine it. Thanks for posting. I loved it….. 🙂

  • Alex

Whoa those really are insanely scary statistics. I was debating whether to get a security system, I think this pretty much proves it’s a great idea.

  • Gart

I live in Houston, I can’t believe that. I’ve never felt anything but safe here. That is insane.

  • Fantastic. I’m young and live in a middle block of houses without an alarm. Suppose I better get one.
