Girls Night Fun With The #BacheloretteABC #ChillHour @BrancottEstate

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Brancott Estate Wines. I received a gift card to purchase party supplies to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating. I’m a diehard Bachelorette fan, and watch every season like a hawk. Single, lovelorn gal seeking a […]

  • You know I’ve never watched this show?

  • I can’t wait to see the finale. I should go out and get a bottle of wine and have a couple of gals over to watch it. My husband thinks I’m crazy when I turn it on.

  • Penelope

My husband gets upset that the men are all hot and have their shirts off all the time 🙂

  • Penelope

Really?? It’s the only show I watch! But can you blame me? The premise is girl picks from among 25 hot guys…and gets to kiss a bunch of hunks in the process. LOVE this show, lol!

  • Mommy’s definitely need that little bit of girl time. Looks like a nice spread you have (and yep never seen the show either LOL)

  • I don’t watch, but I can get behind a good bottle of wine.

  • I have never seen The Bachelor or the Bachelorette, but if you say it’s team Chris, then go Team Chris! 😉

  • I don’t usually watch the show, but I started watching it in the second episode and was hooked this season. I really like Des and I hope she ends up happy.

  • I’ve never seen the show so all I know about her is what you wrote & from that she really seems like a sweet girl! &I LOVE those Cinderella slippers!

  • Penelope

I think she is my favorite bachelorette ever (but I’m not so thrilled with her choices compared to other seasons)- liking Drew and Chris though

  • A girls night with delicious wine and a great food spread? Yes please! Trisha will always be my favorite Bachelorette.

  • I LOVE The Bachelor/Bachelorette. I’ve watched for years and just love it. Des is such a great bachelorette and she has a great group of guys. How fun that you got to have a girl’s night!

  • Had I known you were into this show, I would have been comparing notes all season. They’re trying to make us think Brooks is a done deal, so that makes me think he isn’t, but then they could be tricking us with reverse psychology. OH heck, I don’t know!

But I sure would enjoy a glass of wine with the show!

  • Donna

I watched the first couple of Bachelors/Bachelorettes, but just get to aggravated with it. LOL. So I haven’t watched it in a long time. However, sounds like a great reason for a girls night! 🙂

  • Jennifer @ The Quirky Momma

I’m in love with those cheese platters. I could eat cheese all day long.

  • I want to come to your next party!

  • Penelope

    Ok! 😀

  • Penelope

It strikes me as odd that she is sure she is in love with Brooks, but still makes out with the other dudes. It never happened before in the history of this show that the lead announces who they want while there are still 5 men left- she said last week she is in love with him and this week she said it again despite visiting four families- what is the point?

I get that for the public, and to keep the show going, even if the lead knows who they want, they keep pretending to be thinking about it, but she knows and let us know too…the only ones getting the wool pulled over their eyes are the boys.

I think she just can’t resist making out with them all because they are so cute! Chris seems mature and steady, and Drew is adorable (and she said the best kisser) so I keep hoping it’s one of them. Otherwise I don’t think she’ll get to the alter.

  • I used to watch The Bachelor and The Bachelorette faithfully but haven’t watched it for a few seasons. I think it’s great that you and friends had some girl time.

  • I’ve only seen two seasons of this show (the Ali/Jake) season of the Bachelor and the Bachelorette but I have loved the Bachelor Pad – it’s such a trashy, guilty pleasure show.

  • I haven’t seen the show and I’d probably enjoy it, but with wine and appetizers like that there’d be no doubt that it would be a fun night.

  • Your pictures look great! Looks like a fun girls night out!

  • How fun! I’ve never gotten into that show but could always use a girls night!

  • Mellisa

Even though I am not really into this show, I think the party sounds like so much fun!

  • I have actually never watched this show but it looks like you had a really fun get together.

  • I’ve never watched the show, but looks like you had an elegant yet fun girls night in! 🙂

  • It looks like you had a great time!

  • I love “girls night in” fun like this! I can so see myself doing a wine and cheese night like this for a chick flick!

  • Wow does that wine with cheese and crackers look amazing.

  • I’ve never watched this show but after your post, I’m going to have to check it out 🙂

  • I tend to chose Sauvignon Blanc quite often myself.

  • I’ll definitely check it out!

  • Confession — I have NEVER watched any of those Bachelor/Bachelorette shows. I guess I’m missing out!

  • YUM your spread looks amazing! Looks like a great time was had if the photos are any indication 🙂

  • Looks like you had a great girls’ night!

  • I miss girls nights! I may have to plan one soon!! That wine looks really good right now!

  • I am actually pulling for Brooks. You can already tell she’s completely in love with him.

  • This looks like the perfect wine for us.

The Place He Will Lay His Head For The Next Eighteen Years

We eat organic food, and my babies wore organic cotton baby clothes, so I wanted them to sleep on organic beds as well. We have a Naturepedic organic toddler mattress for their cribs and the baby’s toddler bed, and that made me feel less worried about them breathing in chemicals for the many hours they […]

  • It looks like a nice bed. I have covers on all our beds too.

  • Sounds like a great mattress and perfect for what you have already begun with your kiddos. Might I add what beautiful floors.

  • Very nice mattress. How did you know when it was time to upgrade from toddler bed to a twin?

  • Looks like a great bed for him to grow into.

  • You simply can’t go wrong with an organic mattress and a protecting cover is a must!

  • Penelope

He didn’t fit into a twin anymore, he is pretty big now. The baby is now using the toddler mattress in his Thomas the Train bed (so I supposed when they keep bopping the side of the toddler bed it’s time to move out?)

  • You’re such a good mama to those boys and to make sure they’re not breathing in anything harmful is just a small example of it.

  • When you put it that way it makes sense to buy a high quality matress!

  • That mattress looks so nice! My son needs a cover like that.

  • Donna

It is nice that you can buy “organic” mattresses. We already bought our son a good/nice mattress and didn’t mind investing in it, because it will last him a long time.

  • That sounds like an exceptional mattress.

  • “For The Next Eighteen Years,” Right in your title you make a really good point about how important it is to get a good mattress! This one looks top-notch.

  • Looks comfy! My daughter needs a new mattress.

  • That mattress pad is really neat, wish they had those back when my daughter was bitty.

  • I need one of these for my bed!

  • Looks nice. I hope that other companies notice that consumers need more organic options.

  • This sounds like a bed that your son will use for a very long time. I love learning about organic bedding options.

  • It’s nice to know he will be growing up on an organic mattress.

  • This looks like a really comfy mattress and that’s so comforting that it’s organic and unharmful to your son.

  • I need to get us some new mattresses all around. That looks like a very comfy bed.

  • This is by far the most affordable queen-sized “organic” mattress I could find. I spent months deciding whether to buy this mattress sight unseen, since there is nowhere in the entire country where you can actually try it out. Also, there were no reviews of the mattress until now, so you have the benefit of me being the guinea pig. I have only had the mattress a few days. It is very firm, which is what I wanted. Naturepedic describes it as medium-firm, but it may be a bit firmer than that. My back hurts a little after the first few nights, but that is probably because it takes some getting used to. If you want a soft mattress then you should definitely avoid this. The construction appears to be high quality and I am very pleased. Naturepedic mattresses are made for baby’s and small children, but I am an adult and the mattress is fine. I also called naturepedic and they told me these mattresses are ok for adults too. The mattress also measures about 10″ high, not 8″ as described on the naturepedic website. I promise I will update after a few months of use.

  • Penelope

The one I have is in twin, and it’s actually soft (kind of pillowy)…it’s the double sided. I’d love to get the queen for adults one day, but I want to get my other son his own twin first- I want both my sons always on organic mattresses 🙂

  • We just bought a new mattress for my son, but we actually need to get a mattress pad so I need to look into that one!

  • I love Naturepedic. Both of my children have Naturepedic mattresses. 🙂

  • I’m really concerned about the mattress my son sleeps on. Our mattress required a prescription because it has no fire retardants. I had no idea there was a non-toxic fire barrier. Is it wool? Thanks for sharing this because we’re starting to think about the Little’s big boy mattress. I love that one side is waterproof!

  • Penelope

There is no wool in it (or latex)…it’s made to be non-allergenic. Here is the explanation on their site about the fire retardant properties (and how they use natural materials and a bonding process to make a barrier):

The primary filling material used in nearly all mattresses today is polyurethane foam. Polyurethane foam is highly flammable because it is essentially a petroleum product. In fact, the National Association of State Fire Marshals refers to it as “solid gasoline.”

Due to its high flammability, polyurethane foam is usually treated or wrapped with industrial fire retardant chemicals. Some of these chemicals introduce health and toxicity concerns. In fact, most manufacturers don’t even disclose their fire retardant ingredients.

At Naturepedic, we take a different approach. Organic cotton is a far superior filling material and is significantly less flammable to begin with, allowing for more creative solutions. Our exclusive fire protection system is based on the unique fire retardant properties of baking soda and hydrated silica permanently bonded to cellulose. This results in an inherently flame resistant barrier that does not break down. The cellulose fiber used is derived primarily from eucalyptus and poplar trees and has a low carbon footprint. These materials provide the best way to meet fire regulations without the use of questionable chemicals or wool.

Our toddler mattress is from Naturepedic too and that waterproof side has been a real time-saver- I totally love that feature. No stains on the mattress, even though he spilled and peed a lot, lol!

  • That mattress looks so comfy!

  • These mattresses sound amazing.

  • LOVE the non-toxic fire barrier. What a great, safe bed for your little man!

  • Mellisa

I’d say that looks like a very comfortable place to sleep for the next 18 years!

  • my son has terrible allergies and i bet that would help him sleep easier

  • Jennifer @ The Quirky Momma

    What a nice bed!

  • Love that they make organic cotton ones!

  • I had no idea they made organic cotton mattresses. When we went mattress shopping a couple years ago, the sales person didn’t mention it once and I never thought to ask.

  • Penelope

Isn’t that a shame? Their price is comparatively very good too, so a lot of people would probably choose organic if they knew it was available.

  • Angela

I never really thought about organic bedding before. Thanks for opening my eyes to this option.

  • I love that they make all natural mattresses – I need to get one for us too!! Love that protector too!

Friday Five: What’s New With The Guzmans

We’ve been having quite the busy summer, and I couldn’t think of a better way to update everyone (while at the same time explain the sporadic posting) than with a meme I find around the blogosphere that I always wanted to participate in. So here is my first Friday Five! What’s New In Our Neighborhood […]

  • I think it’s pretty normal for kids to stand around a lot when they are trying things for the first time, I know my boys did. Hopefully he’ll get the hang of soccer and swimming and it will be fun for him! Also love your white picket fence!

  • I love my Nissan Rogue! It’s like a SUV but drives like a car.

  • Love the white picket fence! If we owned the home we are living in now, I would totally put in a white picket fence so the girls could play in the front yard. And I need to learn to use Photoshop more in depth. I bought a book but haven’t gotten around to using it, yet.

  • Glad you are having a nice summer. I need to switch from PaintShop to PhotoShop eventually I guess. It’s just so much more expensive.

  • He’s just so cute! I love the white picket fence too.

  • Tamara

It sounds like everything is going well! It’s nice to see you taking a break to spend time with your family and work on house stuff. Most of my readers are off doing their own summer thing anyway, so I try not to stress too much about posting constantly over the summer either. 🙂

  • I love your white picket fence. You home looks lovely.

  • I’m loving your fence!

  • Wow, you have been busy, but it seems to be with all kinds of positive fun stuff, so that’s great!

  • Learning Photoshop is high on my list of things to do. I’m hoping I can get started on that before the summer is over.

  • Your photos are so lovely Penelope!

  • Mellisa

    What a gorgeous fence.

  • Ugh swimming lessons depress me. My daughter was taking them and did two one weekend. Then the following Tuesday she all of a sudden refused. Nothing happened, she just doesn’t like doing what they want her to do (I’m guessing) I’ve done everything to talk her into it but it has not worked. I already spent $173 on them for the month.

  • I love your new fence! Looks great!

  • Wait? There’s a clone/heal brush in LR? I did not know this!!!!

    LOVE the fence.

  • Penelope

Same problem here. I prepaid for them, and he wouldn’t get it for three lessons already. They said they can transfer over the remaining sessions to private lessons, but I’d have to buy a package for that too (they won’t let me pay as I go) and that would actually cost me more money, so I feel stuck. Blah.

  • I LOVE your fence, I’ve always secretly wanted a white picket fence. Also SUV’s aren’t all big. I think it’s the Toyota Rav 4 that only has two rows and isn’t overly huge.

  • What a lovely fence!

  • With all the gear I lug around I don’t think I could do two boys in a sedan. Your son has the most gorgeous eyelashes… he looks like he’s plotting there!

  • Thanks for the link for the photoshop tutorial. I have really wanted to learn!

  • I’m so jealous of your adorable fence! In Vegas everything is separated by big brick walls & it doesn’t feel as “home”-y as a white picket fence. &How cool about learning photoshop- I am way too intimidated by it!

  • Sounds like you have the perfect life – white picket fence and all. 🙂
SUVs are great for space, but regular automobiles typically get better gas mileage.

  • Hurray lets here it for great fencing!! I bet your going to love spending time with them in the yard. It certainly makes it less stressful if they are out there and you have to run in to the bathroom. Setting up a safe yard is so important when u have little one’s..

boys do grow quickly don’t they. good thing is you have lots of fabulous photos to document taht

  • I really wish I would just take the time to learn my PSE because right now I just use PicMonkey but I know I could do so much more in elements. And I LOVE your white picket fence.

  • That picket fence is beautiful!

  • It looks like you have a lot of good stuff going on. Little just started swim lessons and the boy is part fish. We were really worried about him not liking he water since we have the pool. BTW, I love Lightroom. I have CS6 and I use Lightroom so much more.

  • As someone who helps make fences from time to time, I’d like to mention how nice I think the fence turned out. Also, thanks for the pointer to the photoshop tutorial. I’ll have to check that out.

  • I need to look at the photoshop tutorial

  • We have a fence, but it definitely isn’t a white picket one, wish it was. I also need to start learning photoshop, I have been putting it off.

  • Love the fence!

Can’t wait to hear more about your car shopping!

  • Penelope

CS6 seems awesome but more slow going…I don’t think I can batch edit, and it seems harder to make basic adjustments like sharpening (probably because I haven’t figured out how to do that yet, lol)…and I can’t figure out actions. I can see how to install and run them, but I don’t know how to make individual changes, or focus them on a specific area, etc…I have a LOT to learn!

  • totally jealous over your fence. I would love to have a gorgeous fence like that so my girls could safely play

  • Angela S

The new picket fence looks great!

  • I’m totally laughing that your two boys are starting to work together on shenanigans! Love your fence and wow, I’m pretty impressed at how much reno you’ve finished already!

  • Donna

Your little guy is observing, taking it all in. He will jump in when he is ready, and more than likely excel at it. We found with our son, that if we let him do things when he is ready… he truly does so much better. And, I love the white picket fence!!!

  • I big puffy heart the white picket fence!

  • So glad you guys are having a good summer! We finally moved into our new home the other day. Yesterday was filled with box unpacking, and there’s so much more to do! And I don’t know where to put everything, I have a funny feeling I’ll be shuffling stuff around for quite awhile!

  • What a beautiful fence! It’s so lovely and homey! And it sounds like you have a lot going on in your life right now. My daughter is an observer at first too just to get a sense of things before joining in.

  • Jennifer @ The Quirky Momma

I love your white, picket fence. You must really appreciate being able to let the kids play safely.

SensoTouch 3D Wet And Dry Electric Razor Review

My husband has a pretty thick beard, and goes through a lot of razors a month. It’s actually a major part of our expenses, because in addition to shaving his face daily, he also shaves his head twice a week (no surprise to those of you who have seen his photos). He has a Mr. […]

  • That razor looks totally amazing!

  • I will look forward to seeing your next review!! That is a big savings!

  • Jennifer @ The Quirky Momma

I have a house full of boys, but only two are shaving. It’s amazing the amount of money I spend on razors for them.

  • wow not sure if my hubby would handle the redness on his skin. i wonder if it gets better with use. I think its a close shave but it could get closer. how did your hubby feel about this compared to what he normally uses?

  • I’m interested to see how he likes it..My husband is looking for a new razor.

  • Penelope

He felt like it’s not as close a shave yet. It says it can take up to several weeks for the skin to acclimate to it so that you see the same results, so we have to wait and see. It may just be something men have to go through if they want to make the switch to non-disposable razors.

  • I’m very interested to read your update. My husband has to shave daily as well, and usually shaves in the shower to save time, so this razor would be wonderful!

  • My husband only uses an electric shaver – he doesn’t go the complete “Mr. Clean” look on his head, but we cut it really close using clippers (and by we I mean we) – I’d be worried for him to use a straight edge razor, it would probably look like a horror movie in our bathroom if he attempted that!

  • My husband has this and uses it on face and head as well. It does get better and the redness will subside to nothing once he uses it more often!

  • Donna

I bet my husband would like this… he has used an electric razor/shaver for awhile now, but his is dry only.

  • Penelope

That is what we are expecting, and it will make things so much better at that point! I love how affordable the replacement razors are.

  • I’ve been wanting to get my husband an electric razor. Thanks for the review. I’m going to look further into this one.

  • I can’t wait to see how this razor works out for your husband. My husband shaves his head too but every other day so we also go through a lot of razors. At this point he’s considering laser hair removal because of the time and expense but it seems that’s still pretty controversial being so close to the brain.

  • I hope his skin adjusts quickly to the change, because wow what a savings it could be. I gave my son a very similar one and he likes it quite a bit for his face, however, he’s a kid who cares little about scruff, so I’m pretty sure he’s a shave once a week or so kinda guy.

  • Mellisa

I think that is awesome that you can get it wet and even take it in the shower.

  • Looking forward to the update. (Does it happen to work on women’s underarms and legs?)

  • Penelope

You know, I’m not sure. I didn’t try it (I had those body parts lasered years ago and no hair to test with) but I imagine it would contour well. I don’t think I’d want to suffer the redness during the warm months on my legs though (it’s too hot to cover them up)

  • This sounds great! My husband goes through A LOT of razors, too.

  • That pop up feature is seriously awesome. Hopefully he builds up a tolerance to the irritation.

  • Looks like something my fiance would love.

  • That is one nice looking razor, definitely looks like it gives a close shave. I need to get one of these for Matt, his current razor is less than great.

  • My hubby has never been able to shave dry either, it’s just to irritating on his skin. I like that you can use this razor wet or dry, and it seems to get a fairly close shave for an electric razor.

  • My husband only dry shaves so I wonder how this would work for him. It looks like a good one.

  • That’s good that it’s so easy to keep clean. I’m interested to hear future results.

  • My husband has one and uses it often.

  • I like that it can be used either wet or dry.

  • This looks like a wonderful razor to have!! Love all the pictures!

  • I think my hubby would like this!

  • I’d love to try one of these out. After all these years of shaving I still haven’t found my *perfect* solution, but electric rotaries like this are my favs so far. This one certainly looks awesome.

  • My husband has an electric razor but rarely uses it. I love how easy this one looks to clean.

  • My husband just joined a razor club which has helped him maintain a clean shave.

  • My husband would love this.

  • My husband really likes this razor. It’s helping his sensitive skin quite a bit. I hope it works out for your husband too!

  • My dad has always used something similar for as long as I can remember — but, wow…. tht really got him red. Hope it doesn’t keep that up each time he uses it.

  • I bet it would be less irritating with a wet shave.

  • Looks like a close shave!

  • That’s the razor my husband was using before he decided to start trimming {instead of shaving} his facial hair- he loved it!

  • My husband has this razor– I think he likes it.

  • I told my husband about this and he went to purchase one, thanks!

  • Wow that pop out feature is really neat.

  • I think it did great job and I would expect redness after the 1st use

  • Looks great. I am interested in seeing the future results!
