We All Once Did Our Laundry For The First Time #ThisIsHowIClean

The first time I did my laundry was in my late 20s. For some reason, it seemed like a daunting task, very scary, and I just didn’t even want to try it. Sort of like driving, which everyone else seemed to do so easily, yet seemed like something I could never master. But eventually, I did learn to drive, and eventually, I did my first load of laundry.

I’m not ashamed to admit (anymore) I googled to learn how, and found help on Clorox.com.

That’s how I learned about separating clothes, what things like fabric softener did, and even about how to wash different types of garments and fabrics. So I did my first test load, with clothes I didn’t love, and when it came out not-all-pink and not-all-shrunk, my overwhelming fear of that big machine with the large spinning cylinder dissipated, and was replaced by a huge feeling of confidence and self-reliance. My local drop-off laundromat may still be wondering where I disappeared to.

The truth is, until you learn how to do something, you don’t know how. No one is born knowing how to clean or do laundry, and the “not knowing” is not only intimidating, but seems embarrassing, because millions of people (many much younger than you) know how to do it.

If you have any questions about anything related to laundry or cleaning, Clorox.com is here to help, and no one will know. The How-To section on Clorox.com doesn’t judge, it just helps. It’s filled with lots of tips and step by step instructions, as well as amazing, innovative cleaning and laundry products that just make it all so much easier.

For fun, here are my favorites tips:

1. Separate your lint producers (like towels) from your lint magnets (like fleece) so they don’t come out needing to be cleaned with a lint roller
2. Wash clothes with color on white (like a striped shirt) separately for the first wash in case the color runs- this way it doesn’t ruin any other clothing
3. Pretreating is the best kept laundry secret- the sooner you treat the stain, the more likely the stain will be history when you wash it, and starting from the outside of the stain inward keeps the stain from spreading out further

That’s good stuff! Find your answers in the Tips section of Clorox.com.
