The New 2014 Kia Sorento

It wasn’t too long ago that I reviewed the 2013 Kia Sorento, and frankly really liked it. It just needed a couple of things to make it perfect, and otherwise it was a dream. Well, I recently test drove the 2014 Kia Sorento SX AWD in titanium silver for a week, and all those things I wished it had? It pretty much has them all now.

I currently drive a 2002 Toyota Camry. It’s a good car, but it’s sooo old. And outdated. And missing all the luxury features that seem to now come standard on vehicles like the 2014 Kia Sorento. Like keyless entry and push button start. Dual side heated leather seats. Backup video camera, navigation, and tons of beepy things to warn me if a car is coming close on any side of me.

It’s Uh-MAZING.

So the 2014 Kia Sorento arrived, and right away hubby installed our two car seats into it, so I could start using it right away to transport our little bunchkins to school and around town. It was roomy and comfy for all, and putting kidlets into car seats when they are elevated in an SUV is definitely easier on my back.

When I was driving, I knew when cars were coming too close. When I was backing up, I knew exactly what I was doing. I was able to squeeze through tight spots without having a panic attack or getting out of the car to make sure I wasn’t going to hit anything. The 2014 Kia Sorento just makes driving a pleasure.

Other things to love? A power lift gate that opens and closes with the touch of a button, and warns you that it’s happening with another series of beeps. The ability to download your phone so that all calls can safely be routed through the car’s system, and you can hear people via the speakers and answer calls with a button on screen. You never have to take your eyes off the road. A heated steering wheel (something you appreciate after having to touch an icy steering wheel because you forgot your gloves). The option to set seat positions for two drivers, a roomier center console for a purse, and lots more.

Loads and loads of safety features. We received the 2014 Kia Sorento during a stormy week, and it drove like a champ, keeping us warm and cozy and safe. The mileage when I shifted to all wheel drive wasn’t as optimal (obviously) as when it was in two wheel drive mode, but when we are traversing icy roads, I really don’t care about that. I also loved grocery shopping and returning to the vehicle with my arms full of groceries, and not having to put them down to manually open the back. I really loved this!

What could be improved? I’d love an auto start option. It’s the only thing missing, and may be available on a different model (mine was the 2014 Kia Sorento SX AWD in Titianium Silver). I wish I could have had more time with it, and had the change to enjoy it during a week that wasn’t snowy and the kids weren’t sniffly (well, actually, I loved that I was able to drive it in the snow, since I had to be out there anyway), but I didn’t want to give it back. It’s the only thing I don’t enjoy…having to hand the keys back.

  • The Sorrento is on my short list, for when I get a new SUV

  • We have a 2013 Kia Sorento and love it. Everyone says we should’ve held out for the 2014, but we got an amazing deal on ours.

  • We test drove the Kia Sorento and we just absolutely love it!

  • It looks really nice. I was telling Colleen on her Kia review that ever since I reviewed the Kia Optima in 2012 I’ve wanted one. The thing is it isn’t practical for our family unless we want to drive around in two cars.

  • When it is time to get a new car, the Sorento is going to be on my test drive list!

  • I got to test drive a Kia last year and LOVED it. It’s definitely a possibility for my next vehicle.

  • My husband and I are thinking about getting a Sorento.

  • It’s good to hear that it drove well in the snow. Too bad you didn’t have a little longer to test it out. I would definitely consider a Kia.

  • I would miss having an auto-start feature; my current vehicle has it and it is SO nice.

  • I love it. We have a Sedona ourselves. If the sorento had third row seating, we would definitely be considering it for our future vehicle.

  • I have car envy! My Hyundai is due for a trade-in…

  • My mother in law is currently in the market for an SUV & I keep telling her to get the Sorento! I love Kias &want my next car to be one of theirs.

  • Penelope

After all these cold, icy mornings (we get some bad winters in New York), auto-start is something I’m going to require also in my next car.

  • I love the color and the body style is sleek and attractive. The vehicle looks like it would be comfortable for driving locally and around town. I love the auto start too but they’ve never come standard usually its an extra added expense that’s well worth the money.

  • What a nice ride! It’s got a lot of room which I love.

  • I love Kia. They make such great cars. I love test driving them.

  • The modern luxuries sure are nice, aren’t they? I love my heated seats…I don’t think I could live without them.

  • this looks like a great little SUV!

  • The Sorento was one of my favorite to test drive….your neighborhood looks so quaint.
