Happy New Year! {The Beginning Of A 365 Project}

A 365 photography project is something that is very popular online, both among amateur photographers (like me) who are looking to improve their skills and record a year of memories, as well as professional photographers who want to step back and enjoy a personal photography project challenge.

This year I noticed that a great deal of my blogging friends are initiating their own 365 photography project, and I’m hoping to successfully do one myself. There are so many ways to do a 365, whether by theme, subject, style…anything. I’m not really sure how mine will evolve, but to start, I wanted to take lifestyle photographs of my sons to ring in the new year. Happy New Year!

January 1 – Little man recruits a Star Wars Angry Bird to help him with his homework (that’s Qui-Gon, using the force to help little man write his k’s)(and yes, his pre-k class was given homework over the holiday vacation).

January 2 – I was taking pictures of my sons, and after I uploaded them I couldn’t figure out why my son’s positioning looked so odd here, as though he were taking a selfie and was extending one arm around to face the camera at himself.

So I focused in on and enlarged the reflection in his eye and realized he was reaching out to try and grab the camera from me 🙂 You can even see me trying to pull back so he doesn’t get the camera…he loves it, and always wants to take pictures with my iPhone, so I think it won’t be too long before I have to buy a camera for him too!

Here’s to a Happy and Healthy 2014!

  • That is a pretty neat idea! I love the pictures. 🙂

  • Love how you figured out his position and yeah for help from Angry Birds!

  • Happy 2014! My 365 project pittered out in October. Grrrr…

  • Penelope

I’m impressed you made it that far!

  • I love these projects but I know I could never keep up with it.

  • I just love this idea! Happy New Year!

  • They are the best subjects for a 365 project. 🙂

  • I love all your photos, but the last one is just beautiful. I’d love to do my own project 365. I think I’d do better at a project 52 — 1 photo a week. 🙂

  • My son is a reacher too – he knows when I’m taking photos or video and wants to come around next to me so he can see the screen and watch himself. 🙂

  • I can’t imagine a better photography subject. Too cute!

  • You son is ah-dorable. Love those huge brown eyes! and I see ya got a lefty there doing his homework.

  • How cute! I wish my son’s class had sent home homework, I’ve been trying to find my own online to give him so he doesn’t forget everything he’s learned. Happy New Year!

  • I’m doing this as well. I’m hoping it makes me a better photographer.

  • Great shots to kick off your project! They make functional and durable cameras especially for little ones, and thankfully they’re reasonably priced.

  • That is so neat that you were able to zoom in on his eye and see the reflection! Hope you’ll be sharing more of your photos throughout the year!

  • The eye photo is amazing and I’d so love to take photos like this one day.

  • That is an awesome photo, and a real testament to your clarity and focus.

  • I should be doing this to improve my photography skills. I get overwhelmed thinking about adding anything to my plate though. Some day though….

  • I can’t wait to see the pics. You photograph your boys so well.

  • Angela S

This sounds like a fun project and you have a cute photography subject.

  • I wish I could keep up with these. I usually do good for the first month or so, but after than tend to get so busy I forget LOL

  • I’m going to have to try and join one of these sometime, I can’t even get through the monthly Instagram challenges though, once I can do that, I’m so there 😉 That’s too cute that it really looks like he’s taking a selfie in that picture!

  • That is so neat that you figured it out by looking at the reflection in his eye!

  • Penelope

That is what my husband said!

  • I am not as ambitious as you to embark on any kind of 365 journey.

That is so cool – the picture with your reflection in the eye. Can’t wait to see what else you develop. 🙂

  • Love that you can see the reflection in his eye! Great shots.

  • omgosh the last photo is incredible I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that before . luv all your pics
