We gave my son the option for a Halloween costume this year. Jedi or Sith? Of course he was supposed to choose Jedi (even though he doesn’t fully understand what a Jedi or Sith is yet, but he’s a Jedi in training, an honorable, brave little man who will do great things one day).
He chose Sith. We let it slide this time, and had some fun making a costume for him with a mask we bought, and everything else from fabrics and clothes and props we already had. We found some glow in the dark green gloves, green make-up, and in the end, a homemade costume looked pretty darned good. The shoes are from Stride Rite, which got into the Halloween spirit this year with themed shoes for all sorts of costumes, from Spider-Man and Captain America (that is what our other little dude is this year), to Disney Princesses. Stride Rite carries brands like Sperry Top-Sider, Keds, Jessica Simpson and more, including their own branded name.
Our Star Wars Morphing Light Saber by Stride Rite shoes light up, either red or blue, and they are cool! They are also very comfy, and look great for every day to school and the park as well, with easy to use, secure velcro straps and rubber soled bottoms that keep the Halloween theme going (don’t they look like creepy spiders?).
My son loves the lights and that he can get them on himself. I love that they are so well made and comfortable, and the fact they light up so parents can see their kids in the dark while trick or treating is a bonus. I had to chase him around a lot to get an iPhone pic, but luckily the shoes themselves don’t move when they are off him so you can see how awesome those are:
I wrote about my Halloween safety tips in the past, including always making sure a trusted adult is with your children (preferably you), only going to homes of people you know and trust (your own neighborhood is best), and starting your trick or treating early, during light hours.

My kids LOVE light up shoes too. My son is going to be a superhero for Halloween and will wear his Stride Rite light up shoes. He is SO excited. 🙂
