Get Fit & Healthy This Spring

This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx

I can’t remember a year where I was more excited about spring arriving. The arrival of 2020 has certainly been eventful, and I find my thoughts turning to enjoying some relaxation, sunshine, spring warmth, and a focus on fitness. I think many of us could use a little self-care! I’ve been thinking of ways to add some serenity to my days, to focus on being healthier and more fit and just enjoy life more, and I compiled some choice items that would definitely inspire anyone on the right path while we are all preparing for the return of great weather and time outdoors. Here are eight favorites:

Power Dressings from Healthy Choice

My favorite food in the world is salad. My brother once said my getting a bad salad is like the average person getting a bad steak- it’s just no ok. I could eat a salad three times a day, there is just something about the combination of lettuce with some veggies topped with a good dressing that I crave. For me, salad is a meal, so I take it seriously! I recently discovered Healthy Choice Power Dressings, which are made with real vegetables, including cauliflower puree. I love cauliflower, it has that great anti-cancer power, so I eat it pretty often, and being able to add more of it by topping my salads (or other dishes) with a tasty Healthy Choice Power Dressing works great for me! I tried both Creamy Italian flavor (made with cauliflower puree, Italian herbs, and sunflower oil) and Garden French (made with cauliflower puree, red bell pepper, and sunflower oil) and are both plant-based vegan, dairy free and soy free. If you’re a calorie counter, Healthy Choice Power Dressings have less than 45 calories a serving, and also come in Green Goddess and Power Ranch varieties (the Power Ranch is not dairy free).

They are savory and really enhance everything I eat- I can think of some yum salad dressing recipes to enjoy with my family. It would also mix in great for a chicken salad or roasted vegetables.

Aftershokz Headphones

We use our gadgets quite a bit, especially these days as the boys are learning online with live classes, or listening to audiobooks, or gaming. The Solar Red Aeropex from Aftershokz are gorgeous, streamlined, sophisticated open-ear listening that doesn’t go inside or over the ears (patented bone conduction technology), and allows you to be fully aware of your surrounding while still receiving crystal clear sound. It’s very advanced sound technology ideal for today, because our lives are only fast-paced if we can’t keep up. These help us stay on top of what matters, with style, so our days are smooth sailing. Each of us does our work or school without bothering anyone, yet still connected and aware of each other.

AfterShokz Solar Red Aeropex are really comfortable, and are sweat and waterproof, so ideal sport headphones (though not recommended for swimming laps). They are light and have an amazing 8 hour battery life. Right now they are offering a special 15% discount off headphones that expires May 15th, 2020. The discount is generated for you when you visit the site here.

Ignite Your Light Book

I love inspirational books that motivate me. I expected a lot from 2020, and it’s already unlike anything I’ve ever known. It will definitely be interesting to see how the rest of the year goes, and I want to make sure I’m ready for the challenges. I’ve been reading Ignite Your Light by Jolene Hart from Running Press, an amazing book with ideas and motivation and tips to help me pull into myself for a while so I can refocus and recalibrate. Ignite Your Light: A Sunrise-to-Moonlight Guide to Feeling Joyful, Resilient, and Lit from Within is a guide for mindfulness that inspires you based on the light that empowers you, whether that be the light of a sunrise, the power of daylight, the fire of a sunset, or the glow of moonlight. We have many opportunities to ignite our inner light in ways that enhance our creativity, beauty, health, and more, and the energy and feeling can reverberate outward to affect the world. Hart provides ideas to guide the reader through this journey of connecting to the energy of the world, and as a result, to yourself. There are tips for extroverts and introverts, help to disconnect when you need less noise and reconnect when you feel inspired to, ideas to shift your spirit, and so much more.

I’ve always considered myself a night owl, and really wanted to learn to rise with the sun. There is something magical to me about early morning light, the quiet of this time of the day. Ignite your Light inspired me to strive to wake up earlier to soak in those early sun rays, and to avoid sunrise energy drains (that I’ve fallen for in the past). Apparently when we wake up, it’s the ideal time to visualize (that state of relaxed alpha brain waves we reach when we daydream or meditate is easiest to achieve in the morning, allowing us to impress upon our subconscious our dreams and goals, and making them more likely to come to pass). There are also healthy, happy-making recipes, help choosing wardrobe colors that sustain your energy buzz, activities that allow a “flow state”, and colorful illustrations and side-boxes throughout the book with excellent step-by-step advice (do you need help single tasking? me too). It would be lovely to incorporate self-care rituals that get us unstuck where we are stuck, and elevate us to a plane where we are happy and energy-filled.

Ignite Your Light is Jolene Hart’s most recent book in the Eat Pretty series. Others in the series include Eat Pretty: Nutrition for Beauty, Inside and Out; Eat Pretty Live Well: A Guided Journal for Nourishing Beauty, Inside and Out; and Eat Pretty Everyday: 365 Daily Inspirations for Nourishing Beauty, Inside and Out.

No Nonsense Feel Good Compression Socks

Self-care is often equated with cozy, and that makes sense. The more comfortable we feel, the more cared for we feel, so a great pair of cozy socks are a must. Compression Socks from No Nonsense offer just the right amount of compression where it’s needed to invigorate my tired tootsies and give me a little more bounch, and the three pair pack of no show socks go well with my vintage skips… the low top of these tennis look better with low socks that barely peak above the tops for every day. When I’m going for a run, I don’t mind wearing No Nonsense crew socks with my sneakers, especially since the graduated Feel Good Compression on these longer socks are so rejuvenating and make me feel like I can run longer. They even have arch support and are made in the USA. They can be found at your local Rite Aid.

Suunto 7 GPS SmartWatch

I love to be outdoors, walking, jogging, running, so I’m really not sure why I took so long to get myself a smartwatch, but now that I have a smartwatch from Suunto (the Suunto 7 in gorgeous sandstone and rose gold colors), I feel like I’m finally in the game. I’m busy and really needed a smart watch, and combined with a sports watch that is also a bold fashion statement makes me feel on point (despite those disheveled mornings that transpire more than I’d like to admit!). It has GPS, measures my heart rate, and can synch with some of my favorite apps (including TrainingPeaks), in addition to over 70 sport modes.

The Suunto 7 Smartwatch combines free offline outdoor maps for those of us who like to trek across new areas during a run (and want to be safe), with the best smartwatch features from Wear OS by Google™, such as staying on top of my To Do list, checking calls, and viewing messages while I’m on the go. I can even use Google Pay and Google Assistant with my Suunto 7 Smartwatch, and it’s incredibly durable. The band is made from some kind of water resistant material that will keep up with the sweatiest workouts, and I am able to wear it all the time- whether I’m working out or playing with my kids.

Set up was super easy, and the large face is a touch screen that made navigation pretty intuitive, and I had fun giving voice commands. I’m not sure I’m going to need my phone anymore (currently trying to figure out if I can use the smartwatch without ever needing to carry a phone again) but once it finished charging today, I figured out how to use it as a timer, to make my To Do lists and calendar plans, turn on the flash light, set up my fitness trackers, and a few other activities right on it. I was able to use maps with the voice command, and plan to take it out later for my jog and try out the maps. I love the size so much, it’s the coolest smartwatch I ever saw!

LiftActiv Peptide-C Sunscreen from Vichy Skincare

I’ve been going for daily walks to get out more, regardless of the weather. If it’s cold, if it’s sunny, if it’s drizzly, I’m out there. I’m exposing my skin to the elements, so protecting my delicate facial skin is important to me. I want my skin to look healthy and hydrated, and also protect it from the sun on those early spring days where the sun is finally started to peek out more, so I’ve been using LiftActiv Peptide-C Sunscreen from Vichy daily. This anti-aging sunscreen has a SPF 30 with broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, and the plant-based phyto peptides formula has been dermatologist tested to fight signs of collagen loss. Vitamin C, a known antioxidant that fights free radicals that can promote skin damage, helps to brighten skin, and the mineral-rich Vichy volcanic water ingredient acts as a moisture barrier to protect my skin. All in all, an amazing anti-aging daily moisturizer that hydrates, protects, and brightens my skin!

Vichy LiftActiv Peptide-C Sunscreen Moisturizer with SPF is paraben-free and actively targets the visible signs of collagen loss, such as fine wrinkles and dark spots, or even skin tones and an overall loss of definition and firmness to the skin. I’ve always been very careful to not spend a great deal of time in direct sun, but since indirect sunlight has been shown to also affect skin, as is long term exposure to sun even on partially sunny days, I’ve learned to protect my skin every day no matter what the weather. I deserve it. So does my hard-working skin. Find out more about this wonderful vitamin C moisturizer at Vichy Skincare

Nature’s Truth Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies

I’ve always known about the many healthy benefits of apple cider vinegar, but I just never could make myself take it after trying it for the first time. To me, apple cider vinegar tastes ugh! I recently discovered that Nature’s Truth makes Apple Cider Gummy vitamins, and it seemed like a solution for those of us (and I have to believe that is many of us) who can’t tolerate apple cider vinegar as a liquid but really want to get the good stuff. Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies from Nature’s Truth are yummy, and they smell so good that I like to open the bottle every so often just to enjoy the fragrance of fresh apples. It tastes like apples, and it’s made with superior ingredients that are free of gluten, dairy, artificial flavors, wheat, etc and are non-GMO and vegan. They offer 600mg of Apple Cider Vinegar per serving.

We were goofing around and trying to catch the gummies in the air, and my son said they taste “really good- like candy!” (they do taste incredibly good- no yucky aftertaste).

If you’ve been wanting to incorporate more healthy apple cider vinegar pills daily, without the harsh vinegar taste, these are a great choice.

Pink Simply Collagen Beauty To Go

I’m always looking for ways to be healthier, and a friend tipped me that she takes collagen powder to keep her skin looking young. I don’t know if this will help me look as young as she does, but she looks great so I figured I’d give it a try. Simply Collagen Beauty To Go from Pink are individual powder packets that includes type 1 and 3 collagen, with 10g of collagen and 9g of protein per packet, and a box contains 20 packets. The suggested serving is taking packet once or twice daily in a liquid, basically upgrading my daily morning tea by making it a beauty enhancing beverage 😉 The hydrolyzed collagen peptides are sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised bovine and are gluten-free, non-GMO, and dairy-free with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.

Pink Simply Collagen Beauty to Go is a very fine powder that is tasteless, and quickly dissolves into liquids or recipe ingredients. I sometimes add Pink Simply Collagen supplements to my yogurt or hummus without altering the taste or texture at all. It mixes in easily to anything I add it to, and I am boosting my daily protein intake with a quality collagen peptides source. I’ve been wanting to do this for so long, and am glad I’m finally treating myself. The individual packets make it easy to take along in my purse, so whenever I get a break and can have a snack or some coffee, I can just open a packet and pour it in.

With the arrival of spring, I think we are all ready to take greater care of ourselves and embrace true self-care. We can stay on track while we are at home too, and emerge from our cocoons like butterflies with lovelier skin, a better sense of mindfulness, and a plan for better health and fitness.
