Summer reading has many benefits, not the least of which includes preventing “summer slide” in children. A good book can transport you to another world, teach you things, open your mind, and simply even just entertain. In many ways, good books are like good movies, and during the summer, a great way for children to spend their leisurely days is either reading great books while relaxing in the sun or by the pool, maybe late into the night, or watching great movies, with friends, chomping on buttered popcorn in the theater, late into the nights. Both are memory building, fun activities that shape the days of the best childhoods, and Showcase Cinemas wants to help parents out!
Bookwork Wednesdays Reading Program
Participating Showcase Cinemas locations want to make a trade- FREE admission to some of the best, most popular children’s movies in exchange for a book report! Until July 31st, children who bring in a book report (book report forms are available online and at the box office) on Bookwork Wednesdays can watch one of four children’s movies for free, and any siblings under six and their accompanying parents or guardians will be ushered in free to join them! Movie choices include:
July 24 – How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (Rated PG)
July 31 – The Lorax (Rated PG)
and the following Showcase Cinemas locations will participate in Bookworm Wednesdays:
At 9 a.m. each Wednesday in July:
• Massachusetts: Lowell, North Attleboro, Randolph, Revere, Woburn
• New York: Farmingdale, Island 16
• Ohio: Springdale
At 10 a.m. each Wednesday in July:
• Connecticut: Bridgeport
• Massachusetts: Blackstone Valley, Legacy Place, Patriot Place, Worcester North
• New York: Ridge Hill, Jamaica, Linden Boulevard
• Rhode Island: Warwick, Warwick Mall
Participating locations will also hold a weekly prize drawing for children who submit a book report (winners randomly chosen from all submissions that week). Winners will receive a new book and a Showcase Cinemas movie pass! As a special offer this year, all Bookworm attendees will also have the option to purchase a 123 Go Box for only $5.00.
Reading and Movies = A Perfect Pair
Reading and movies formed the best parts of my childhood, and now that Showcase Cinemas has brought back this popular program, another generation of children can be entertained (while learning!) in a wholesome, wonderful way. What better way to reward your little bookworms (and the parents who support them) then with FREE admission to fabulous movies for kids?
