We all know hormones, stress, and daily activities can affect how we look and feel, but we may not consider that it can affect everything, including vaginal balance. It’s a sensitive area that needs to be cared for more delicately for good health, especially since there are more sweat glands than anywhere else on the body (even the underarms!).
I recently shared my ideal gym bag stash, which includes Vagisil’s pH Balance Wash with Lactoprebiotic™ (the only wash that has this). It’s clinically proven to help you maintain a healthy pH, and designed specifically to cleanse this delicate area while maintaining a healthy pH so women can feel confident all day.

Women often have questions about how to wash the vaginal area but are too embarrassed to ask (and shouldn’t be). I’ve heard everything from “You aren’t ever supposed to wash there at all, it can cause a yeast infection” to “wearing thongs can cause yeast infections”.
Since many women still don’t want to ask, I’m happy to share a few tips you may have been wondering about. You can (and should) wash the area, just not with harsh soaps. Vagisil makes intimate washes for women with different needs (such as Sensitive Plus Moisture Balance, Odor Block, and my persona favorite, pH Balance intimate wash, since I am active and can really work up a sweat at the gym or while jogging. It smells great, and I use it with a soft washcloth to be more gentle.

Most women (two-thirds) have sensitive vaginal skin, and shaving can exacerbate irritation and cause itchiness, so choosing a wash that cares for sensitive skin is a must. Things like thongs, however, don’t cause yeast infections. If you are wearing comfortable, cotton (or another breathable material) underwear, it’s definitely best, and overly tight clothing worn often can cause moisture to build up, disrupting the pH of the vaginal area. When the pH balance is off, you are more likely to get a yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, or other irritations.
Even if you aren’t one for exercise, excess vaginal sweating can be caused by other activities, such as sex or being very stressed. That excess moisture breeds bacteria, which is what leads to odor and irritation, so washing regularly with a vaginal wash such as Vagisil (especially pH Balance, my personal favorite), can help. I use it daily once I get back home from the gym, and it’s very soothing, not drying or irritating at all. It makes me feel great, totally confident, and the delicate fragrance is really pretty.
