Baby’s First Bath Tips For First Time Moms – Moms Know Best #MustelaMom

When you first have your baby, it’s incredible to think you are going to bring home a brand new human being without any guidelines or help, or someone checking to make sure you know what the heck you are doing. It’s overwhelming, yet it’s the same things millions of other parents have done throughout history, and will continue to do for many years.

I remember being super nervous about giving our son his first bath, he was so teeny and slippery. Luckily, my husband was willing to take over bath duty until I was less nervous. He would lay our son down on the bed in his waterproof bath sponge and make sure he didn’t roll or squirm away, and they’d have lots of daddy-baby bonding together while I sat to the side photographing my two dudes having fun.

If it’s time for you to give your baby his first bath, and you are nervous too, here are some tips that helped me when I had to bathe my son for the first time:

Tips For Baby’s First Bath

1. Use a comfortable, fluffy towel or bath sponge to lay baby on…a baby tub works too if it has a seat to keep a newborn higher up and support their back, but in the beginning just sponge baths are perfectly fine. We used a waterproof bath sponge with elevated sides that we placed on the bed…safe and neat.

2. The room should be warm, and the bath water on the warm side (but not hot). Laying a small towel over baby’s body in the tub that you keep pouring warm water over to keep their body warm helps too.

3. A gentle wash can be used to clean baby’s delicate skin, like Mustela 2 in 1 hair and body wash. Even if baby is bald, wash their scalp.

4. As baby gets a bit older, you can add safe bath toys to entertain them and keep them sitting securely in place…it can be a fun time for them, and bonding for you both.

I found an old photo of my son taking a bath as a baby, from over five years ago! Time flies, and I still remember being so nervous he’d slip over the side and fall out, or I’d do something else wrong.

One of the nicest things about giving your baby a warm bath is that after, they tend to be nice and snuggly…and rather sleepy. It’s great to do before bedtime to help baby prepare for a good night sleep, and let tired moms turn in a little earlier too.

If you notice your baby’s skin gets a little dry after baths or in general, you can help hydrate it with Mustela Hydra Bébé body lotion. Mustela is the #1 baby skincare brand in France and is hypoallergenic. and paraben and phtalate free. Mustela bébé products can be found on Diapers.com
