Family meals eaten at home are proven to be beneficial to the health and wellness of children, which probably isn’t a surprise to anyone. Finding out that September is National Family Meals Month was a surprise, and great news, because family meals should definitely be encouraged and celebrated. For us, it’s the best part of the day!
We try to eat at least one meal a day at home together each day (preferably two), and since everyone is in school or at work during lunchtime, that means we try to eat together for breakfast or dinner. This year our after-school time is shorter than ever, with both boys coming home from school with more homework than they did in the past. This doesn’t stop me from wanting to offer my family a delicious dinner to end our day together with, and HORMEL® Taco Meats make it easier for me to do just that. I make our family Taco Night with HORMEL® Taco Meats Shredded Chicken, a key ingredient in the fastest, easiest taco dinner ever!
I recently picked up HORMEL® Taco Meats Shredded Chicken at my local Stop ‘N Shop in preparation for our Taco Night (it’s usually in the ready-meals cool section, close to deli products), and was pleased to find HORMEL® Taco Meats was offering a special- a free jar of large Chili’s salsa and tortillas. That’s a complete dinner!
The chicken was already shredded and deliciously seasoned dark meat, the tortillas just waiting to be filled, and the salsa has all those veggies and spices already in it. You can add a sprinkling of cheese, some cilantro, or a dollop of sour cream if you’re in the mood for it, and a full, restaurant-style dinner is ready and on the table- in less than ten minutes! Visit Hormel Foods to see the great selection of products to make your family meals easy too!

2. Add HORMEL® Taco Meats Shredded Chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes. Stir, and cook for another 4 minutes, covered.
3. Add shredded chicken to taco shells or soft tortillas, and add favorite toppings.
Celebrate Family Meals Month!
If you don’t usually enjoy family meals together (because of work, activities, travel, etc) this is a great month to try to make an effort to start somewhere. Whether declaring Sunday night family meal night, or asking everyone to join together for breakfast each morning before starting the day, be inspired to begin this month and bring your family together for family meals!
