Decorate Your Home With Garlands Of Angels

This time of year, the atmosphere is different. Everything seems more relaxed, magical, serene, and beautiful. I love bringing this feeling into my home, so I decorate for the holidays early, and with as much homemade decor as I can.

This year I was inspired to decorate homemade garlands with pages from favorite old novels, and music sheets, because I love music and books, and it seemed like a great way to up-cycle favorite old children’s books, novels, and sheet music with edges and bindings that are beyond repair.

Create Angelic Streamers

Using these items, we made our own streamers (or garlands) of angels to decorate our home for the holidays:

1. old, beloved novels
2. scissors or X-acto knife
3. pencil
4. cardstock or thick paper (small sheet to create template)
5. mod podge (we used satin finish)
6. sponges
7. string

How To Make Garlands Of Angels

1. On a piece of cardstock, draw an outline of an angel. Cut out drawing (this is your template).
2. Trace template onto pages of novel and cut out traced shapes
3. Place angels about 2-3 sheets thick and cover with mod podge to seal and protect paper (let dry on one side before adding coat to other side).
4. After both side are dry, paper can be curled or folded if desired.
5. Dab mod podge onto back of angels and attach string (it will dry clear). After dry, string garlands around home.

Creating your own Christmas garlands is fun because you decide what decorates your home, whether it be angels like we did here, or people, butterflies, birds, flowers, candy canes. You can use children’s book pages or music sheets instead of favorite old novels for paper, and you can also sprinkle a dusting of glitter onto your garlands while the mod podge dries for a little sparkle in the sunlight. It’s beautiful!

This is something you can do as a family, with your children, for some crafting fun. And of course, while you are relaxing, enjoy the holiday flavors of International Delight creamers in your coffee (my favorite, favorite, favorite is Pumpkin Pie Spice!).
