Home decor has been our focus this last year, and I recently turned my eyes to my home office, because it was boring and utilitarian and totally uninspiring. I moved the furniture around (it helped) and completely decluttered it (always a good thing), but I knew what it lacked was color, and prettiness. I can’t be happy in a bare, beige room, I needed some beauty, so I looked on Wayfair and found a gorgeous Cambridge patterned area rug in a sort of turquoise blue and cream, and ordered it. And that was the start of creating a new work space for me.
Once I had a pretty area rug covering my bare hardwood floor, I knew I was on a roll and the rest of the room has to be spruced up, so a dark wood desk from Sauder (as well as a matching side table to hold my printers) were added to replace my unfinished wood desk, and some organizational items to keep me neat and focused.
Finally, the throne, aka the girliest armchair I ever saw. I wasn’t excited about standard basic black and grey computer chairs, and since I plan to start having photography clients visit my home and wanted something beautiful to sit in while I talk to them, as well as the fact that I spend so many hours sitting in front of my computer and needed comfort, I knew this decadent and plush chair was just right for me…I could picture myself curled up in it, drinking my International Delight iced coffee, and editing photos or writing a blog post. It’s what I’m doing right now….
It’s true love.
The perfect accent for a work area is inspiration, and I found one of my favorite sayings, something that I want to remember everyday, available as inspirational wall art. Everyday I remember that the best life is when I do what I love, and love what I do. I’m a mom, a blogger, and a photographer, and I love what I do 🙂
My home office now inspires me, it elevates me, it makes me happy. Some color, a little bit of extra comfort, an inspirational reminder, and it’s now my happy place. And it all started with a gorgeous new area rug.

Definitely our den/office space. It’s a huge room at 22×16 feet and it’s all tiled floor. Our home really needs some décor updating – it was built in 1987 and some spaces haven’t been updated since then :/
