I remember as a child participating in Grab Bags for holiday gifts, and never feeling particularly happy with whatever I managed to grab out of the bag- like a bag of six pairs of socks, or a change purse in the shape of a puppy. Obviously these gifts didn’t have much thought behind them about the random person on the receiving end, and if you are going to give a gift, it should always be an individualized gift with some thought about the recipient, or else, what is the point?
My favorite gifts were always useful, enjoyable, and interesting. As a result, I knew that when the decisions for buying gifts fell to me one day (when I actually made money and shopped for gifts), that I wouldn’t ever give a gift that wasn’t specific to the receiver. It had to be something that at least made sense. I love to give gifts such as thought-provoking mind-benders to curious children, challenging activities for little adventurers, and personalized onesies for newborns that would make the parents laugh…and love how much they appreciate them. I recall getting a set of wooden puzzles for a boy who yelled “Finally, something fun and it’s NOT SWEATERS!”
Ideas for Thoughtful and Unique Personalized Gifts
1. Make it useful- even if it’s only going to be used as a decoration, as long as it’s useful to the recipient (something they would specifically enjoy), it’s a good choice
2. Make it interesting- maybe something they can learn from or be challenged by
3. Make it personal- something that is specific to their favorite hobbies, a job (if they love it), and personalizing it with their name or a message makes it even more special, like the Bright Star Kids clothing for children that can be personalized. Right now they are offering 15% off, and all you have to do is pick a design, add the child’s name, and it will be printed and arrive within a few weeks.

I love doing photo calendars or photo books for my parents. It’s a great way to share photos with having them framed.
I made my kids a personalized book for Christmas a few years ago and now they look forward to me reading it to them each year.
That is the best kind of gift 🙂
