Organized: A Label For Everything

We moved twice in the last year, and one of my biggest regrets during our first move was that I didn’t label everything properly when I boxed our lives up for storage. While applying for a mortgage for our new home, I needed documents that were somewhere, and I had no idea where. I had about 20 boxes stored everywhere with a scribbled general description in pen on one side of each, and I could not find anything when I needed it. I had to run around getting new copies of important documents mailed to us so we could complete the application process.

I recall packing everything up and thinking I’d remember what was where, but months later I can’t believe I ever thought that, and I knew when we moved for the final time, I just couldn’t afford to make the same mistake again. I needed to properly label everything.

Enter the Brother P-Touch Labeler, my first labeler and an incredibly handy gadget. I was offered the opportunity to try it, and knew I needed one. With it I could label a box, file, containers, shelves. It’s a huge time saver because this labeler lets you make multiple copies of a label, for each side of a box, it’s black text on a white label (much clearer than pen on a brown box) and the text can be written on the labels horizontally or vertically, depending on your needs.

The Brother P-Touch Labeler lets you select the type of font (bold, italic, shadow and more options), decorate the text a bit with flowers or heart or leaves or whatever strikes you, change the size, and more. The labels stick to various surfaces without leaving any residue and can be removed and readjusted. The most handy use was when I realized I could create two lines of text, and use these to label cables. If you want to refer to and recreate old label dimensions and options, there is an option to save label files, and holiday graphics, pets, and symbols for those who like to get a little more creative.

Of course, I needed to be able to find my coffee maker once we moved in, so that box was labeled first (priorities, priorities). And with everything we had going on, at least unpacking at our new home was a breeze.

  • I like how you can add shapes to the labels.

  • I have one of the labelers and love it!

  • I could think of hundreds of ways I could use a labeler, but above all, labeling our storage totes in the garage would be heavenly!

  • I could really use one of these!

I like that you can add borders and hearts.

  • I need to start labeling everything. I have so much stuff.

  • I no longer have my ptouch machine, but it was once my favorite way to label everything! I have labels on my canisters in the kitchen that were made from my machine. They are awesome! Mine definitely wasn’t as cool as that one though.

  • I could definitely use one of these!

I have an old Brother Labeler, but it still works like new. Love that thing! And after moving 6 times in 9 years, I’ve learned to make sure to label boxes properly so that I can find what I’m looking for.

  • I just got one of those & I have already labeled EVERYTHING in my office closet! Love it. Also I can totally relate to the whole, not labeling while moving thing. Not fun.

  • Love this labeler. OCD bring it on!!! 🙂 So cool that you can change fonts and put on different designs too, love the heart-shape design! 😀

  • I would go label happy with this!

  • Labels are fabulous!

  • It would be kind of neat to have something like this!

  • I would love a label maker I use to have one of the cheap old style ones that would stamp the label but I love uniformity and would love something easy like this.

  • I remember when I was young, my grandma had one of those plastic handheld label makers where you had to punch each letter on them. She would try to put labels on so many things.

This label maker looks super handy!

  • Ugh — I ams STILL TRYING to find everything I packed from our move last summer … that labeler would have come in handy!

I use my label maker all the time – it’s especially handy to put one around all those plugs and cords that go to iPods, cameras and other electronics. We have so many of them and until I started labeling them we never knew which ones went with which device!

  • Donna

I have this labeler and love it! I still have some projects to do this spring with it.

  • I so need to get one of these. I am trying to start off our new life in our new home, neat and organized.

  • I love labelers. I used them for a lot of my desk stuff.
