What a wonderful summer it has been! Every day has been full of fun, spending our time with friends and family, enjoying the weather, and I have had the pleasure of watching my sons grow closer and play together more and more. I don’t want it to end, so we plan to keep on enjoying these lovely summer days until it’s time for back to school.

The Guzman Family’s Summer of 2013 Highlights
- We spent our first summer in our new home, with a new backyard and fence
- We held our first family barbecues with our first bbq grill
- Little man got his first bike and “swam” (tread water) for the first time
- Little man jr. hot his first haircut at a real barber shop

It was definitely a summer of firsts for us! I kept it going by trying out a new recipe for the first time at one of our family barbecues that was very popular, and was easy for our little family members to eat too.
Hot Dog Salad Recipe
4 Hebrew National hot dogs (cooked and chopped into 1/2 inch pieces)
2 cups cooked red beans
1 large tomato, diced
2 tbs fresh cilantro, chopped
Combine ingredients in a large bowl and toss together with lemon juice. Add to mixer and pulse about five times, until chopped to a coarse, even texture. Season with salt to taste and serve.
It makes a tasty, chopped hot dog salad that everyone liked, so I plan to make it again and serve it at our Labor Day barbecue in a few weeks. Of course, summer is not over yet, and we have a lot more to look forward to, such as birthdays, labor day, back to school shopping, and a lot of fun days at the park!

The cilantro totally threw me. I am not a big hot dog fan but the combo with the beans and tomatoes sounds interesting.
Hot dog salad… now that is what I call a carnivore’s delight.
What an exciting summer it has been! Your boys are just so cute. And yes, I trust the Hebrew National quality, they are delish!
I like that they have no filers. Now if they will only make them without nitrites. 🙂
Oh my gosh – little man jr.’s pick in the barber chair is priceless!! I love it! We’re actually having Hebrew Nationals for dinner tonight, it’s our favorite brand of hot dogs!
I love Hot Dogs but I have never tried them in a salad. Sounds great.
When I make that for my family, I won’t call it ‘salad’ because to them, it means ‘super healthy momma food.’ Perhaps they’d like Hotdog Delight???
Ooh that sounds like a great recipe! I love anything with cilantro. &What a great summer! That haircut picture is just too cute.
Sounds like an eventful summer of “firsts” so awesome to be in a new house.

Gorgeous boys! Sounds like you are having an awesome summer.
This post is making me hungry for hot dogs and I just finished breakfast….what’s up with that? lol!
I’ve never heard of a hot dog salad, but this sounds pretty tasty. Something’s telling me we’ll be seeing this in the near future.
So many firsts for your family this summer. How exciting.
That hot dog salad would make a fun side dish for a bbq. You captured some great moments of your kids this summer!
The end result is a little sweet, deeply flavorful, and positively melts in your mouth. This exact hot dog is one of my favorite things about summer. I look forward to my first one every year.
This summer has gone by way too fast! I can’t believe your youngest has already gotten his first haircut. My girls have such fine hair that my oldest was 4 before she needed one.
