One of my favorite retro style trends from a past fashion era has recently returned- Peplum!- and as someone who loves feminine fashion trends (the girlier the better!), I couldn’t be happier.

Peplum is fabulous way for us ladies to enhance our female silhouette, by emphasizing a narrow waist and curvy hips (and if you don’t have either, this feminine trend will make you look like you do- a great fashion cheat). A peplum is gathered strips of fabric at the waist of an outfit, whether a top, skirt, dress or suit, and it evokes a shapely, retro 40’s, Marilyn Monroe silhouette that should never go out of style (though it does- it comes back every few decades so if you wondered why this looks familiar, it’s because style icons of the past wore the peplum trend in the 40’s and 80’s).
I loved this look on my favorite hourglass beauties of times gone by, and it’s still a great fashion look today:

Many celebrities, including Charlize Theron and Rosario Dawson, have been seen rocking this ultra-feminine fashion trend:

I love peplum! What do you think of the return of this pretty style?
It’s totally not my style, but it’s cute.
I learn something new everyday! I had never heard that word before. I do like th elook, as long as it doesn’t make my hips look huge
HMM this is one of those looks that certain styles looks good and others I am not fond of LOL. Love the one on STella that is a doll! But the Ralph Lauren one, not for me 🙂
I could carry this look off before I had my son… not so sure it would be flattering now. 🙂
This is one of those fashions that some wear better than others. LOL.
I never knew that those were called! Yes they are really cute!
I love it and I can’t wait to add a piece or two into my wardrobe!
Love that style!
I LOVE this style! I never knew the name of it though. the first outfit and the red short are gorgeous!
I love this look, too.
I love this look and never knew it had an actual name. The ruffle hides any little leftover bulge too!
Oh I agree whole-heartedly! The girlier the better and I love peplum!
I really like that look, but with my hips it is not for me.
I didn’t even know there was a term for this. But I agree, it’s very feminine and would define the smallest part of your figure.
Those are so cute!
Lokks good on everyone pictured but it would make me look horrible lol.
This is a come back I remember well in the 80’s.
It really is a wonderful fashion trend. I love the clothes you featured in this post.
I think its cute at times but I don’t think I could pull it off personally.
I have plenty of hip and plenty of butt I need something to minimize lol but love that color
I’ve never heard of Peplum before. But I suppose it does look nice!
Oh many I must not be a fashionista because I’ve never heard of this trend, but I do adore the look!
This is a look I’m all for! Especially like the red bustle…
