My Maytag Is Better Than My Mom’s #MaytagMoms

I knew the name Maytag growing up because we had Maytag appliances in our own home. When I bought my first apartment, I knew I would have a reliable appliance if I bought a Maytag, and indeed my oven served me well for the whole ten years I lived in my condo.

Of course, times have changed, and the simple but reliable household appliances I grew up with have been replaced by advanced, innovative upgrades that do more, save more, and offer more. The zillions of options on my new Maytag Bravos XL washer and dryer set alone look like the console of the Star Trek voyager, ready to respond to every laundry challenge.

Before the Maytag Bravos pair I’ve never seen a washer and dryer set with so many modifiers to accommodate so many different laundry needs. I grew up with cold, warm, hot, and perm press…that was it. I think that may still be the extent public laundromats offer. I certainly never saw Auto-Refresh or Wrinkle Control on any other washing machine.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I plan to teach my son’s to do their own laundry early on. The Bravos XL washer has a SmoothClose feature in the lid, a unique hinge designed to close it slowly and prevent fingers from getting smashed or clothes from getting snagged, so I don’t have to worry about attempting this in a few years. And of course, now that I’m a homeowner and saving money is a priority, features like the deep cleaning Cold Cycle are appreciated- it provides the high performance, cost efficient cleaning of the warm water wash cycle, but with cold water.

My only complaint about the washer is that the clothes get tangled, and I have to untangle them after each load before putting them into the dryer (especially anything with long sleeves, or towels). It’s an extra step, but being able to wash our family laundry in the house saves a step, so in the end it evens out.

Update (two months later): As a result of the tangling problem, with the knotted clothes sometimes stopping the wash cycle in the middle because they form such a heavy bulk, we had to return the Maytag Bravos XL washer and purchased a new one.

All in all, I’ve been very fortunate to be a Maytag Mom and have the opportunity to try out Maytag’s Bravos XL washer and dryer set. Want to learn more? Visit Maytag, follow them on twitter, or like them on facebook.

I wrote this post participating in the Maytag Moms Dependable Laundry Ambassador program by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of hmhhg. I was provided with the Maytag washer and dryer set to facilitate my post.

  • I have the cheapest washer and dryer possible, and your Maytags are totally giving me high-end appliance envy! 🙂

  • Billie

Wow that does look futuristic. I think it’s important to teach kids how to do laundry.

  • Maryann

oddly I don’t think we have owned a Maytag yet.

  • My mom taught me around 10 or 11. I’ve started teaching my son how, he’s 12.

  • I am sure your future daughter in laws will thank you for teaching your boys how to properly do laundry. Your Maytag set is gorgeous!!

  • Mellisa

That is so nice! I’m just a little jealous 🙂

  • These are great machines!

  • Leilani

That looks awesome! I wish I owned a home, so I could buy a cool washer/dryer like that!

  • That sure looks like a pretty appliance!

  • Jennifer The Quirky Momma

I have a terrible washer and drier. I ‘fixed’ my washer with a lint roller, I kid you not! We are going to purchase a new set in January, hopefully our cruddy set will last until then!

  • I am seriously jealous of your washing machine and dryer.

  • LOVE the idea of that slow-closing lid; I wish mine had that. 🙁

  • Sooo shiny! I hate my stackable w/d, but it fits in our apartment.

  • My grandmother (on my mom’s side) loved Maytag!

  • I haven’t owned any Maytag appliances but they look nice.

  • I have a Maytag washer and dryer that is about 20 years old, and they still work great! Gotta love Maytag.

  • It looks like such a nice machine.

  • It’s amazing all the different options available on washers and dryers. Mine even has a sanitize option – everything can be laundered with a specific need (temperature/speed/size) in mind.
