Life is busy, and I don’t get much sleep. I need to refuel throughout the day, to keep me going, especially on those extra busy days when I have to get up early before the family wakes, and stay up late after everyone goes to sleep, just to get everything done. This happens more than you’d think, and most busy moms just don’t get a nap time to keep going.
How do I keep myself going? Many people jog, schedule manicures, or rest to refuel, but the truth is, my secrets for recharging in the middle of the day are much more basic.
How I Refuel During The Day
- Coffee throughout the day. Thank. goodness. for. coffee.
- Baby breaks I spend a few minutes each day just holding and snuggling my sons while I feed them, one at a time, and don’t allow anything else to have my attention at this time. It gives me a chance to just focus on them, and for a brief moment in the middle of all the busyness, appreciate my life and everything I have.
- Mental naps I just sit alone for a few stolen moments midday with a pen and pad, and write what else I need to accomplish before the day is over. I do this to plan things out, or else things just never seem to get things done. This very short break mentally organizes me and helps me stay on focus.

I’ll be trying out Starbucks Refreshers soon as a new source for my daily caffeine fix, and am looking forward to it since I love Starbucks for my coffee fuel.

I refuel by giving myself quiet time. When I recognize that I’m reaching a breaking point, I give my kids the iPad and tell them I need “mommy time”. Even if it’s just 5 minutes of peace and quiet… every little bit helps.
I like to take a little me time from time to time.
since I am pregnant, I can’t drink too much coffee anymore 🙁 So trying to keep up with the family and my daily chores is SO hard sometimes! I do have some coffee in the morning though. I like your “mental naps” suggestion, I will have to try that one!
When I need to refuel, usually a steaming cup of coffee does the trick.
Beautiful photos!
Yoga really helps me. And I love Starbucks iced green tea with no sugar. And a little dark chocolate can do the trick, too! Watching and dancing with Ellen during her show also gives me a little pick-me-up and anytime my kids give me a hug….that works, too! My kids are teenage and tweenaged now, so when they help me around the house, that also helps. And we can’t forget a good gals night out….or a spa day! All good stuff!
If I start the day with a workout, I almost always have more energy the remainder of the day!
I’m taking more time offline. Unplugging has really helped me stay more focused.
I try to refuel myself throughout the day by taking a few breaks from in front of the computer. A few moments away does me good and I also take a daily walk with my dog. I also snack on sunflower seeds. 🙂
I didn’t realize the refreshers had caffeine! Thanks for sharing!
I am about to give in and go back to caffeine. I just can’t wake up most mornings.
I definitely love Starbucks. I take a moment to sit and regroup when I need to refuel
Now that the weather is cooling off I’m hoping I can exercise outside as a way to refuel throughout the day. I definitely have a caffeine dependency though because that gives me the biggest boost right now.
I want to try these. I tried the fresh one in the store and it wasn’t good. Maybe this will be better.
Very beautiful photos!
I like to take a walk!
