The holidays are filled with festivities and excitement, and often a whirlwind of parties as well. Christmas weddings and winter celebrations tend to be magical, with green and red colors on display amidst beautiful holly and snow. The social aspect of the season makes me look forward to it as one of my favorite times of the year, and this year is no expection- a string of parties and events are lined up on our calendar, and we can’t wait to go!
I’m expecting, so it’s a little harder to find flattering special occasion maternity dresses, but luckily empire waist dresses are available to help women like me find a beautiful dress to wear that doesn’t cost the $300+ most special occasion maternity dresses cost. I went on a mini-shopping spree to David’s Bridal recently, with my sister and our kids in tow, and found out that a little goes a very long way there.
David’s Bridal is actually a store that specializes in bridal gowns and wedding party dresses, but they also carry a range of pretty special occasion dresses for guests that aren’t in the wedding party as well. So in addition to a section of white bridal gowns and flower girl dresses, as well as ruby colored brides maid dresses, there were areas dedicated to accessories, special occasion dresses, and shoes (including shoes that can be dyed to match your dress). I of course made a beeline for the empire waist dresses, one that falls at the knee since many of the baptisms and showers I am attending are earlier in the evening, and had fun trying on a variety of dresses. The price range was between $80 and $100, which is incredible for a special occasion dress, especially one that can double as a maternity dress. My wedding dress was over $3,000, so browsing around David’s Bridal and seeing the beautiful wedding dresses and bridal party dresses available at such low prices made me realize some of the money spent for our wedding could have been allocated more intelligently.
I ended up selecting a black, one-shouldered cocktail dress and sequined silver clutch, and picked up some clothing tape to keep this sexy little number in place as I dance the night away. After I have my baby, this dress will still be a great investment for future parties, and I absolutely love the flower embellishment on the single shoulder strap. What do you think of my choices?
