There are lots of great reasons to visit Holland, and you never have to visit one of their famous “coffee” shops to have a great time. Last time I was in Amsterdam was 2005, and it’s simply a beautiful country, with friendly people and lots to do. Comedienne Mark Malkoff is on a mission to educate the world about all that Holland has to offer, with a series of really funny videos showcasing him doing some of the 101 Other Things To Do In Holland featured on his blog. So if you thought Amsterdam was just about the red light district and smoking pot, read on and check out these great videos.
Shopping with Mark Malkoff at local Amsterdam shops is quite an adventure. I didn’t even know there was a floating tulip shop in Amsterdam (though I did know Amsterdam has an extraordinary amount of beautiful flowers). I also learned Mark lives in my very own neighborhood (but I never ran into him here or in Holland). Among the other various unique shops are a store that sells only toothbrushes (regular toothbrushes, novelty toothbrushes, musical toothbrushes) and even has a cashier that brushed Mark’s his teeth for him- talk about service!
When I was in Amsterdam, I was shocked by the thousands upon thousands of bikes lining the streets, used to get around by locals and tourists. I don’t know if it’s a bid to improve cardiovascular health or reduce gas fumes from destroying the environment, but bike riding is big in Amsterdam. Mark Malkoff shows us another way to get in shape, by burning calories in Amsterdam’s beautiful Vondelpark (in a pair of wooden shoes he decorated with the Nike logo).
Mark visits some of Holland’s beautiful museums, visits the bathroom at each, and shares his own artistic expertise (I actually agree that Bob Ross is an awesome artist). He manages to convince one of the museum curators to hang up one of his own art pieces in the Van Gogh Museum, and in the perfect location.
This one is so funny that you shouldn’t watch it while drinking anything (trust me)- though I wonder what the locals in Amsterdam think of Americans now, lol:
If you’ve been wanting to visit Holland, but hesitating because of what it’s famous for, you can rest easy that it’s actually a very family-friendly, beautiful country. You can check out Mark’s hilarious blog for other great ideas for fun things to do in Holland.

Funny amazing videos, I would love to go to Holland. You certainly have to familiarize your self for sure.
That run was such a bad idea, but so funny!
OK, I’m game!
These are so funny! If only Holland would help us with a little debt reduction.
I would love to bike everywhere!
I’ve never been, but I’d love to go.
Fun! I have only been to the Amsterdam Airport – and I tell you that’s some airport, if the rest of Holland is like that…well it’s got to be a great place to visit!
Very funny stuff here man.
I found myself a good place to stay in Amsterdam through amsterdam apartments.
Maybe it appeals to you too, well good travels!
Great videos! I have some Dutch staying in my Hostel in Ecuador right now. Actually, they just finished celebrating Queen’s Day. You are adding to all of the evidence, convincing me I need to travel to Amsterdam as soon as possible. I think I will move it up a few spots on my travel list.
Thanks for the info and great tours,
Ryan
I love this. I live part of each year in Amsterdam and there’s so much more to the entire country than the coffee shops and Red Light District – a great arts scene and quickly growing fashion industry for starters. It’s very diverse and a great central location for people (like me) who enjoy weekend travel.
I would love to visit Holland some day.
If you whant the MAGIC – go to Keukenhof, it is a GREAT FLOWER near the town of Lisse in Holland. I have been there and still feels as a Walk in a fairy tale!! I have uploaded photos from my trip there on my blog – you are very welcome to see them! (www. lifes-message.com)
I thought that my first note was “gone with the wind”, so I wrote a second one, that is similar, sorry about this!
One day I will travel!!
it if funny reading this because in the autism community we have a story called “Welcome to Holland” where you were thinking you were going to Italy but you end up in Holland and how it can be just as beautiful even if you don’t know the language.
I would love to visit Holland one day!
I would love to go to Holland someday. I went through the airport but that was it LOL
I’m glad the “running in clogs” video ended better than I was fearing. It looked uncomfortable but at least nobody got hurt. 🙂
