I love board games. I mean I reeeeaally love board games. I grew up having game night with my family, and recall some of the best parties I’ve been to being those where everyone had fun competing at some game or other, whether it be Charades or Trivial Pursuit. I definitely plan to have many years of game nights with our kids (and they can’t escape it until they are off to college— and even then….)
If you love board games and family game nights too (or if you realize it’s about time you started to have them), I discovered a really fun game called BLURT! It’s going to be featured on our gift guide for kids, but it’s fun for the whole family. Now that the cold weather is here and everyone will be spending more time indoors, here is a great way to be entertained and have the whole family have fun together, laughing, bonding, building memories.
What is BLURT? The goal of the game is to be the first to guess the correct word when a definition is provided. You don’t get penalized for wrong answers, so you basically keep blurting out answers until you get the right one (and it’s funny to see what people come up with for what seems to be obvious answers to the clues). You blurt out the first word that comes to mind, and advance around the game board if you get the right answer. The first person or team to make a full circle wins.
BLURT! can be played by 3-12 players (on teams- there are six game tokens) and there are 1800 different clues on 300 cards that vary in difficulty. Children from age seven can play also because easier clues are provided on one side of the card, so that the whole family is included. Obviously this game is educational, and would probably be a hit in classrooms, but it’s also a lot of fun. We got together for a game night recently, four men and three women in my family, and we had a great time playing BLURT! We enjoyed the challenge of racing to be first, and since we are all adults playing, we opted to stick with the more difficult clues to make the game more challenging, which for us equals more fun.
Buy it! BLURT! is available on Amazon and at various toy stores, and would be a great gift idea for children you know 7+ (but great fun for teens and adults too).
