Teaching is a truly noble calling. It requires a person with a heart to not only share knowledge, but to inspire ambition and direct young lives to great achievements. Teachers can literally change hundreds or thousands of lives during their career, and the rewards of being a teacher go far beyond a paycheck. It includes knowing the impact you have on the futures of those you teach, and the ability to lead creative and capable young minds to do great things one day.
Teach For America recruits a diverse group of exceptional people to become teachers in low-income communities for two years, where children often need great guidance and encouragement to reach their full potential. A corps member of Teach For America teaches while being taught, finding purpose while making an amazing difference because you believe in the value of every child. You are trained and coached by a supportive team throughout your tenure.

Do you want to inspire and make a difference?
Today about 16 million children grow up in poverty, and only one-third of them will graduate from high school. Less than 20 percent will enter a four year college. These statistics are incredibly heartbreaking – so much wasted potential, and so many dreams that aren’t realized. Teach For America wants to corral those among us with a spirit of passionate purpose to really make a difference, by offering training and placing you in a full-time teaching job in one of 52 regions in low-income areas that would allow you to reach these children.
Does this sound like a fit for you? Are you called to be part of the lives of possibly hundreds of children, helping to direct them on their way to great things? Do you believe a child should receive a great education, no matter where they are from or where they live? Ready to learn more about teaching?

I loved school, and the reason was because of a handful of great teachers along the way that I felt truly loved their students. They went above and beyond to support me in my dreams, help me consider pathways to take, and answer questions about anything I wanted to know. All children deserve this. They deserve teachers who care, who are skilled and ready to help them succeed and thrive. It made me fall in love with teaching and for two years I taught creative art classes after college.
There are so many benefits for corps members of Teach For America as well. In addition to the life-changing affect of working with youth, you are trained to teach and lead, skills that will benefit you throughout your life as you continue on your path, whether it be continued teaching, or politics, advocacy, business, anything.
Teach For America alumni have continued on to success in a variety of fields, armed with fine-tuned traits of leadership, organization, dedication, critical thinking, and much more. What’s more, alumni of Teach For America continue to advocate for kids from whatever fields they work in over the years, and many of those taught by Teach For America corps members themselves join Teach For America and continue the positive cycle.
