Celebrate The Little Mermaid’s 25 Year Anniversary With The Diamond Blu-ray Edition {Giveaway}

The world of animation was turned upside down for all of us when The Little Mermaid was released. The magical adventure of a mermaid was so beautifully done, and made us feel we were part of a real undersea world of merpeople. We didn’t feel like we were just watching Ariel swim around, we felt like we were swimming with her, in her underground paradise (you know, the one she was bored with and wanted to leave to check out ours).

the little mermaid sings

I remember watching The Little Mermaid in a theater filled with people of all ages, even groups of adults toting along no children at all. It was that popular and innovative, this concept of animation that made us feel like we were watching an actual movie, a coming of age tale with an intricate story lines and beautiful scenery and a full cast of characters that were developed and interesting and complicated. And it was funny. And scary (I was terrified of Ursula). And those songs. Weren’t they magical? I sang them for months after.

And now The Little Mermaid is 25 years old, and available for the first time on Blu-ray for today’s generation, featuring a new music video, a deleted character, and more.

It’s still as good as ever.
