5 Small Steps Toward A Healthier Lifestyle #QuakerPopped

I spent the last four years either pregnant or nursing, and aside from running after babies and the calories burned breastfeeding, I haven’t really been able to do much to burn calories. Now that I can again, I am committed to making sure this is the year I get in fabulous shape. And of course, I have a plan to get there.

I started by making five health resolutions for 2013 that I’ve been following, and making a permanent part of my life. Some are just returning to old, smart habits, and others are totally new (and difficult) for me, but overall my health (and life) will be better with each step. My goals:

Five Small Steps Toward A Healthier Lifestyle

  • Sleep more – a sleep deficiency since the first trimester of my first pregnancy has had me walking around in a fog, with late nights and lots of coffee dominating my life ever since
  • Walk daily – I used to walk daily, but once baby #2 came it became difficult to even find 10 minute to go out on my own just to walk. The fresh air and endorphin boosting perks make me want to recommit to my favorite aerobic exercise
  • Eat healthier – I’ve never been a junkfood eater, but when we moved in with another family between homes we became dependant on the eating habits and schedules of others (because we shared a kitchen) and while they were wonderful hosts, they just did not appreciate my penchant for unprocessed and organic foods, and they didn’t want organic produce taking over their fridge. Once we are in our new home I can fill my fridge and pantry with nothing but lean proteins, and fresh and organic fruits and veggies again
  • Drink more water – somewhere along the way I went from my usual 8 glasses a day to one or two small cups a day, and told myself coffee counts as fluid (it doesn’t), so I have picked up this skin enhancing step again
  • Prioritize so I can have less stress in my life – stress causes wrinkles and lack of sleep, so I am learning to say no and prioritizing my life for a happier, more fulfilling 2013 for me and my family!

healthy quaker snacks

I recently discovered Quaker Popped Rick Snacks, a delicious snack available in about a dozen new flavors, including Creme Brulee, Apple Cinnamon, Chocolate, Ranch, and Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper. Not only are the flavor options incredible, but they taste really, really good. I liked every single one and couldn’t believe how good they were. They are pretty low in fat and calories (4.5 grams of fat and 180 calories per serving), making them a much better snack option than tradition nachos and potato chips.
