This post brought to you by Walmart. All opinions are 100% mine.
The holidays are a time many people count their blessings as they reconnect with loved ones. In the midst of this happy time of year, they are reminded of those less fortunate, and look for ways to give to others, sharing their time and money with those who are sick, homeless, and alone.
And then there are those who feel called to help others throughout the year, by volunteering, giving, and organizing daily. The recent storm in New York City reminds me of this, as I see people work tirelessly, in the cold, to help those who lost their homes to Storm Sandy. The constant efforts of such wonderful people deserve recognition, and this holiday season, Walmart will be giving a total of $1.5 million in grants to benefit communities across the country, providing basic needs such as food, diapers, baby formula, and cold-weather clothing to those in need. During the campaign, Americans will have an opportunity to nominate organizations they feel need support and deserve to win a portion of the $1.5 million.
I nominated a local organization called the Ladies Philoptochos Society (philoptochos means lover or friend of the poor). The local Philoptochos Society works throughout the year through fundraisers, sales, missions and more to raise money for the poor and less fortunate and bring them hope, through the talents of a wonderful group of ladies. They feel called to use their own blessings to help others in whatever ways they can, which makes me admire them so much.
Americans can nominate and vote for local nonprofits on Facebook until November 18th

If you are part of or aware of a local non profit organization or charity that deserves the support of Walmart through a grant, nominate them! It’s easy to do, just visit the facebook page and share the name, contact info, website (and optional photo) of a local nonprofit you’d love to help. On December 10, Walmart will announce the winning nonprofits during the 12 Days of Giving, so go vote for your favorite local nonprofit now, because your vote makes a difference! You have until November 18th to vote!
What nonprofit will you nominate?

This is such a great idea! Thanks for sharing it! I’ve got a great nonprofit organization in mind!
This is an awesome program, another reason to love them other than their low prices.
My favorite non profit isn’t exactly local but i think they do wonders – Generation Rescue.
This is awesome. There are lot’s of charities that I would love to see nominated, I will have to go to the site and nominate them.
I love seeing everyone helping during this busy season. It makes my heart happy.
What a wonderful way to help those who are already helping others. I think selecting only one to nominate would prove to be quite difficult!
I nominated our local United Way.
That is awesome Anne!
What a great idea!

I’m going to head over and check this out. I know many nonprofits that could benefit from this.

After participating in Operation Christmas Child I’d love to nominate Samaritan’s Purse. I love all that they’re doing!
