The Quest For Beautiful Hair

I’m ready to begin making all those fun changes I resolved to make, starting with having beautiful, feminine hair  that is low-cost and easy to maintain. I’m a bottle blonde, and I love, love, love my highlighted hair. The problem is it’s hard to maintain. The salons near me charge too much for a stay at home mom, and my mother-in-law, who owns a spa/salon, is an hour away- it’s hard to find someone I trust to watch my not-yet-verbal son for as long as it would take to drive out there, get highlights, and come back home. For this reason (only) I’ve been considering changing to a darker, easier to maintain color.

Men generally love several things about a woman’s hair . There are exceptions, but largely, men love long hair, shiny, healthy hair, and hair that is a great (not gray) color. Some men prefer blonde or brunette or red, but as long as it’s shiny, healthy, and longish, it’s pretty. My hair is naturally very wavy and very dark, and I love straight, blonde hair for me (it flatters my very fair skin and features). These are some celebrities (or celebrity hair) I’ve been eyeing for inspiration, both color-wise (a bit of a darker blonde) and style (very healthy and feminine!):

I don’t really pay attention to celebrities for anything other than beauty ideas, but I love the shine and waves of these styles. I’m hoping to find someone closer and more affordable so I can maintain my blonde, but with a slightly darker base so I’ll be required to color it less often. I love the style of the hair in Reese’s second photo above- like a fairy princess. I’m going to ask my hair dresser to cut shorter pieces around my face to make these delicate tendrils, and once my hair is recolored, I’ll be brave enough to post pics, so stay tuned….

  • Penelope, your hair is beautiful in the photos of you, but I can see how it would be high maintenance if there is such a contrast between the blonde and your natural colouring. Awhile back I was bored with my blonde hair, it just seemed to get whiter and whiter with each highlighting session. I think they were trying to get me to come more often. I asked for lowlights mixed in and over each appointment was a little darker. I only needed to go four times per year as the contrast was lower. That was actually my stipulation to my hairdresser – I only want to have it done every three months. I can’t wait to see your new look. Good luck!

  • Don’t you have a friend close by that you would trust to help you put your own highlights in. The DIY kits are pretty good these days.

  • I have never colored my hair, ever. Now, it is gray, but it is a nice gray–I get compliments on my hair all the time, even from strangers.

I definitley agree that shiny, thick and healthy hair is the prettiest as well! Best is having great hair in the shortest amount of time. I am always on-the-go so definitely appreciate quick styling and hair care tips. 🙂 Saludos!
