New York Reviews: Prime 1024 Steak House

New York is famous for its steak houses, and I just discovered a new one for us on Long Island: Prime 1024. Located on Northern Boulevard along a popular shopping strip, lunch at this upscale steakhouse a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon with family, maybe before or after some local shopping. The food was delicious and the service friendly, and my sons are already asking if we could make it a weekly visit.

Prime 1024 is a well lit, spacious, and uniquely decorated Italian Steakhouse with ornate chandeliers and walls lined with an expansive wine bottle display. The booths and tables are all divided by wood and plexiglass dividers for safety, and they actually fit in well with the overall decor, so the atmosphere was very cozy and private while still being light and open. We were provided with the option to have paper menus or to snap the table’s Q-code to peruse the menu on our smart phone. Around us were many families and couples enjoying a Sunday lunch or celebrating birthdays.

We started our meal with onion bread and a creamy ricotta cheese spread for the table, followed by a rich lobster bisque (one of the specials on this Sunday) and roasted brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were grilled in a pan and drizzled with a slightly sweet oil that was phenomenal, and topped with shredded, sharp parmesan cheese. One of my sons ordered a Margherita pizza with dollops of mozzarella and fresh basil over a traditional tomato sauce and crunchy, chewy crust. My other son ordered the Prime Burger with melted American cheese, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and a side of large, hand cut fries. Both entrees were large so naturally led to sharing, and they ended up splitting their meals so each could have 1/2 of the large, juicy burger and 1/2 of the Margherita pizza pie. My favorite dish of the night was the Ribeye on the Bone, a 24 oz ribeye with supremely tender cuts of meat that melted in the mouth. This is a must order, you don’t want to miss the Ribeye at Prime 1024. There is a children’s menu with chicken fingers, penne, or a burger, but your children may enjoy the Prime burger, pizza, and Ribeye as much as my sons did, so I’d recommend letting them consider the regular menu as well.

Despite feeling so very satiated once our entrees were eaten, we were very tempted by the dessert menu. The lava cake, tiramisu, and cheese cake all looked too good to pass up, and they were. The rich, warm chocolate lava cake was filled with decadent melted chocolate that spilled out after spooning the first bite, and served with whipped cream and ice cream on the side. My cheesecake was very creamy and smooth, with a tasty, crumbly graham crust and raspberry topping. My husband loves a good tiramisu and is very picky about it, and he gave his thumbs up on Prime 1024’s own tiramisu. We enjoyed cappuccinos with our dessert (they offer decaf espressos and cappuccinos in addition to regular), and overall it was a truly great experience for a family meal.

Prime 1024 offers a private room that seats 30, and plenty of parking. The eclectic menu also offers handmade pastas and many wonderful seafood dishes, all prepared in a traditional Italian style. Reservations are recommended, especially for larger parties.

We were invited to review Prime 1024 as a Long Island eatery option for families.
