Tips + Tricks For First 100 Days With Baby

The first 100 days with a new baby may be one of the most tumultuous times in our lives. Talk about a life change! So much excitement intermingled with so little sleep, a new person in the family and a new schedule, new routines, new relationships. And everything you expected it to be like? It’s not like that at all.

During the last trimester, many of us try to prepare for the coming of our new baby by “feathering our nest” and feeling a mad surge of energy and hormones spurring us to get everything ready. We clean, shop, make lists and plans, but really, we can’t control anything. We don’t really know how the birth will go, if our baby will be colicky, or how often they will want to poop. One of my son’s pooped every 5-7 days, the other four explosive times a day (and both are normal, just on opposite ends of the bell curve).

We don’t know, but we can prepare the best way possible- by talking to other moms who have been there! The best thing I ever did was listen to the advice of moms… moms who’ve done it can offer more than a book or doctor who wasn’t the primary caretaker of his own newborns can, and other moms can also listen to you and comfort you. Experienced moms rock!

Must Haves For First 100 Days With Baby

Here are my tips for new moms (because I’ve been there too ♥︎)

* Buy wipes in bulk and keep a stash in every room, car, and purse- babies are messy. Spit-up, diaper changes, and just wiping hands on-the-go makes them a necessity for baby’s First 100 Days and way beyond. Wipes will save your sanity!

* Pampers Swaddlers keep baby dry and comfy with a contoured front that doesn’t irritate baby’s healing belly button, and allows mom to make sure it is healing well without waking up baby. Some newborns need to be changed often, so stock up and keep them in the diaper bag too so you can happily venture our of the house.

* White noise- whether you get a fancy noise maching with white noise and the sound of a waterfall, or download a simple free app onto your smartphone, a great way to make sure your baby takes his naps (and you do too) is to drown out noise from outdoors (or the next room) with some rhythmic noise that is soothing.

* Onesies with snaps, and lots of them. Your baby doesn’t need a lot of fancy clothes, so if you are on a budget, make sure to at least have a stock of onesies to keep them clothed. They will soil themselves often, so buy them in bulk and in white (it’s bleachable), with snaps to make diaper changes easier, and get long sleeves for the cold months and short sleeves for the warm months. You can put on a pair of pants, leggings, overalls or a dress on top, making onesies the perfect base for every outfit.

* Blankets to keep baby warm (even during the summer). Very early on, babies can’t regular their own temperatures well, so having soft blankets to keep them warm is a good idea. Large swaddle blankets are great, they do double duty by swaddling in the first month or so, and becoming a favorite blanket in later months.
