I was an 80s kid… I loved Super Mario Brothers, I watches Popples and Smurfs and Care Bears and I wore plastic bracelets and played with Shrinky Dinks. It was a fun time of great dance music, fun cartoons, corny movies that I can watch a zillion times, and celebrities were all superheroes or animated. I’m betting you wore scrunchies and played with a Rubik’s Cube too!
Imagine my delight when I discovered that Mario Brothers, Care Bears, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Popples, and more…they were back, for my kids.
And my kids love them!
soooo much!
I feel kind of cool, like I was 30 years ahead of the trend!
Netflix has a lot of great shows streaming now (I’m simultaneously watching a bunch, and Blue Bloods is a current favorite), and I have to admit I like watching with my boys too, because they are watching my favorite children’s shows. Totally nostalgic moment. Love sharing this with them!
In case you are wondering what’s going on over at Netflix, here is a selection from the Kids section (included in streaming plans and family friendly… in fact, often educational):
1 Care Bears and Cousins – Remember “Care Bears! Caaaarrre!”… they still do, with more characters and more adventures
2 Popples! Strawberry Shortcake! My Little Pony! Favorites for little girls everywhere.
3 The Babysitter’s Club – we read the books (all of them, dozens and dozens, and we wanted to be babysitters too) and seeing it adsfdaf onscreen is pretty cool!
4 Smurfs- The Magic Flute – I watched this as a kid. Love the blast from the past of a favorite movie!
5 Garfield, Inspector Gadget, and Curious George REDUX…favorites revived and recreated for a new generation. They are just as fabulous as the original, but with newer graphics and new adventures and storylines. Curious George is a favorite. There is a reason it one an Emmy Award. It’s an educational, fun show I keep hoping my sons will pick to watch because I love watching it!… so good!
Remember the 80s?
Relive it on Netflix, because it really was amazing the first time around. The 80s life and 80s tv ROCKED!

Back in the 80’s, just about everyone had a good positive attitude about life, work, and the world. I liked that very much.

There was way to many shows to love in the 80’s, Rainbow Brite, Popples, Pound Puppies, Strawberry Shortcake, Thundercats, and the Smurfs, being a kid was the best during that time. hah!
I would love to see Pulp Fiction (1994) currently playing on Netflex.
I loved the feeling of being safe in the 80’s!
Oh yes I had babies during the early 80s so we remember! I made Care Bear appliques on bib overalls for the girls, Teenage mutant ninja turtle ones for the boys! We had all the He-Man things! Oh yes. I LOVED 80’s music and still do. Heck the Pixies will never grow old to me.
Netflix? I am able to watch it now, thanks to a son.. when I do his baby-sitting! LOL So I now am trying to get thru “Jessica Jones”. I did watch “The Killing” before and oh it was good.
I think it was the 80s when we all started getting perms in our hair. Loved it back then considering I had the straightest hair you could possibly have!
I think the 80″s big hair is hilarious. My favorite Netflix show is House of Cards.
My favorite thing about the 80s was the neon! It’s a look that I still love today and I know it was a pretty cheesy idea of a futuristic look, but it’s one I still hold onto dearly. And what goes better with that look than the music of the 80s?
Favorite show on Netflix is Peaky Blinders, in a class of it’s own.
My favorite netflix show is the Walking Dead – i also like orange is the new black –
I just got Netflix this month to watch “The Very Murray Christmas Special’, Bill Murray is GREAT and the songs were good too.
I liked the Rubik’s Cube from the eighties. I also remember scrunchies for your hair. I didn’t see acid washed jeans mentioned in your post, but they’re probably better forgotten anyway. It seemed like things in the eighties were brightly colored.
