Ditch The Space, Or Find Some, With DitchTheSpace.com

When we lived in our condo, we knew one day we’d outgrow it and have to move. I loved everything about that place, except the fact I had to sell it to buy our new house. We weren’t allowed to sublet our apartments (board rules), but if we were, I would have and used that rental money to pay our house mortgage. That would have been pretty darned awesome.

It also would have been fabulous if we could have had a place to sublet after we sold the condo and while our new home was being renovated (for six months!), instead of having to live with our parents. That was not awesome.

Ditch the Space is a new online marketplace that connects people that want to sublet their space to others that are looking for short-term space. Ditch the Space offers quality listings for apartments and lofts as well as office and retail space, and they even encourage listing with incentives to sweeten the pot, such as a first month discount, free gym membership or furniture included.

If you have some space available that is still costing you money after you’ve moved onto a bigger place or different city, sublet it with DitchTheSpace.com!
If you need a short-term space while you are in school, for work, visiting family, etc, it may also be the answer to your prayers. It’s great to not have to stay at a hotel or impose on friends and family for a place to stay, or sign a long term contract when you may only need an apartment or office for a short time.

DitchTheSpace.com charges small fees (as low as 4.99 to list a space), and if you are a broker or real estate agent, they offer a Premium Service for brokers and property managers, Ditch Pro monthly, with unlimited listings for a flat rate. It’s easy to ditch your space: just sign up, upload images and videos to generate interest in your space, and respond to inquiries from interested parties. You can arrange a showing and negotiate the terms of your sublet with the tenant of your choosing.

If you are looking for a space, search DitchTheSpace.com to find the perfect space, based on location, price, features, and time left on the lease. Sign up to contact ditchers and set up viewings, and when you find the space that is right for you, move in! Ditch The Space helps fill in all those gaps of empty space with people who need someplace to fit.

While I’m not currently looking, I did take a peek and found some really amazing spaces (like a fully furnished apartment in the Financial District with incredible views and lots of pictures). In order to inquire about it, I can sign up with the membership of my choice (three options, starting at 99 cents). I can’t even begin to tell you how many times in my life I needed a service like this- like when I did a three month residency and had to drive hours each way because I couldn’t find a place that would give me a lease for less than a year.

Have you ever needed a short term space but didn’t know where to find one?

Ditch the Space is currently running a $1,000 sweepstakes on their Facebook page. Looking for some space? Visit to find your perfect place.

Brilliant! I definitely could have used this in college – would have saved me a lot of trouble. 🙂

  • Ditch the Space sounds like a good alternative. Storage units can be really expensive.

  • How cool is that! I learned two things. First if I ever have to look for an apartment for myself or someone else look for a place that allows subletting. Second, check out Ditch The Space!

  • What a great alternative to a storage unit and membership seems so low as well.

I know…I think of all the times this could have come in really handy!

  • This would be ideal for people just relocating to the city and unsure yet of exactly where they want to rent or buy.

  • I’ll definitely have to check this out! And thanks for sharing the sweepstakes.
