Organizing My Home Office With @FellowesInc #MC

I’m a work at home mom with lots of paperwork flying around all the time. As a family, we also have a lot of correspondence that is sensitive (about our minor children, my husband’s job, our financial investments, etc) so we have come to value having a shredder in our home, both for my job and for our family security. My personal shredder recently went kaput on me, after gasping for breath for the last six months, and I recently had the opportunity to try out my first Fellowes shredder, the Fellowes 63Cb Shredder.

This is how we keep track here: I have files for our most important documents. I hold onto most for the legally required time, and not a second more. Every week I shred regular correspondence with our family information on it. Once a month I shred my husband’s pay checks, our bank statements (after checking all is good), and anything completed and no longer necessary for my blog or my son’s school. Once a year I shred documents that are outdated (like CE credits and tax returns that are over seven years old). It keeps us from being inundated with unnecessary paper, minimizes our file cabinets, and makes what we store easier to keep track of and search through.

It also protects our privacy from prying eyes, the main reason I use a shredder in the first place. We are big on to do lists and family planning calendars, and when these are complete I shred all these too. They keep me on track and organized, but I don’t need anyone sifting through our trash and learning about my family’s personal live or schedules, so all that is shredded too. There isn’t much paper that leaves this house unshredded.

It would be an understatement to say we use our shredder a lot, but I already love my new Fellowes 63Cb Shredder more than any I have owned. It not only runs more quietly, it has a larger capacity for shredding paper (ten sheets at a time) and holding the shredded paper (so I have to empty the bin less often). It also has SafeSense, an incredible safety features that protect little fingers (my sons love to shred paper and will often look for random sheets to pass through the shredder mouth for fun, so I love this feature!), Jam Blocker (jams have always been a big problem for me) and Energy Savings Technology.
