My husband and I would go back and forth on who would be stuck with an SUV for our next car. We know we need one, but neither of us wants to be the one who has to have it (while the other gets the cool car). I changed my mind, because I think I found an SUV that is the cool car.
I just test drove the Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring All Wheel Drive in Meteor Gray for a week, and as soon as I stepped into it, I fell in love. It just fit me. Everything felt like it was where it was supposed to be. I felt comfortable driving it. It was easy to get the boys into their car seats. Everything was just right. The fact that it’s roomy, easy to park, and loaded with great safety and convenience features are a plus.
My favorite features of the Mazda CX-9:
- Blind spot monitoring system and rear backup sensors
- 2nd and 3rd row split seating
- 3rd row seats folds down flat for extra storage space
- Powerlift gate
- Touchscreen radio and GPS navigation
- Keyless entry and start
- Reverse drive video
- Heated seats
- Seat heights that make it easy for me to see while driving, and more ergonomic for parents to put their kids into carseats without throwing out their backs
Is there anything I would change? Well, I’d love better fuel economy (the one flaw)- it gets an average of 18 miles to the gallon. Otherwise, if we get an SUV for our next car, it will definitely be the Mazda CX-9.

I have a Honda CR-V that I’ve been driving for the past 14 years, I find that an SUV is essential in the northern climates and the trade off of having a 4 wheel drive when you need it is worth the crummy gas mileage.

That is a sweet looking vehicle. I hate that I am so limited in the type of vehicle I can have because our family is so large.
