We are deep into autumn and winter starts in a few weeks, so we are all feeling the effects of the cold weather. If you have children in school like I do, you may already have dealt with those dreaded sick days. A sick child is difficult on the whole family, and frankly, I don’t think any parent wants to see their child suffer for even a minute, so it’s important to try to keep our children happy and healthy during the cold winter months.
My son has been in school for two years now, and hasn’t been sick that much, but I’m obsessive about keeping my children healthy. I limit playdates during the winter, make sure they are well-rested, and don’t let them go out to play unless they are properly dressed.

I wanted to share what I do to try to keep my kids from getting sick, in hopes it will help out other parents.
Five Tips For Keeping Children Healthy During The Winter
1. Eat well, lots of protein, fruit and veggies, and get lots of rest. Staying well hydrated is important too!
2. Wash hands a lot, especially when in public, at school, after using the bathroom- and don’t share drinks!
3. Bundle up, it’s cold out there! Put on the thermals, the boots, the mittens, scarves and hats, and if they don’t like it, get them a coat with a puffy collar and hat attached so they can’t take it off.
4. If your children are sick, keep them home! I wish all parents would do this. The last thing we need is for children to keep passing germs back and forth all winter long.
5. Take vitamins to boost their immunity, like L’il Critters (both my son take these and really like them).
L’il Critters™ are the #1 child gummy vitamin. We are the better tasting gummy vitamin that is preferred by Kids and trusted by Moms. “We Make Nutrition Taste Good.”

#4 is a biggie. I think many parents have to work, so they just send their kids to school even when they’re sick because they don’t want (or can’t) miss work themselves. But, I really wish they wouldn’t, because then they may get every child in their class (or school, eventually) sick. Sigh.
Hearing kids in my son’s Kindergarten class coughing away drives me nuts! I agree, just keep them home. So far my kiddos have been lucky enough to avoid any case of germs.
