How Do You Like Your Hot Dogs? {3 Toppings Recipes & A Great Contest}

Summertime barbecues are the highlight of the summer season for most of us, between foods grilled to crispy perfection, and the opportunity to have fun with family and friends while milling around the bbq, chatting and eating hot dogs and grilled foods. I’m sure many of you have already started grilling with your families and are having a blast. We had a wonderful Father’s Day this week, bbqing Hebrew National hot dogs, burgers, and corn on the cob and having a happy family day with three generations in one home.

In my family, there are several of us who flatter ourselves to be something of an inventive cook. We love to create new recipes to try out on our loved ones, and for better or worse, it’s fun to try new things. When it came to our Father’s Day get together, my family was happy to let me experiment with unique hotdog toppings for our Hebrew National franks, and this year I took individual requests to make each hot dog topping to their taste.

(and I was prepared for anything)

My first creation is a family favorite, not new to us, but maybe new to you…a Hebrew National hot dog that’s been grilled, and topped with slices of corn on the cob, chopped green peppers and diced tomatoes, and sprinkled with Monterey cheese…seriously yummy hotdog toppings!

What do you think of a hot dog with ranch dressing, chopped celery and bacon bits? (We fried up some Canadian bacon and chopped it up, none of that store bought artificial stuff). This was my brother in law’s idea for his ideal hotdog toppings.

My husband said his dream hotdog toppings would be covered in marinara sauce and smothered with melted mozzarella cheese, so I complied with this “Pizza Dog”.

He loved it.

We kept going and tried other ideas as well- a hot dog with feta cheese and tzatziki sauce, another with a fried egg. Yep, some wacky yet utterly delicious hot dogs!
