Earth Day is coming, and this time of year always makes me think about the world around me, this planet that we share. I have two little boys, so I think about what we are leaving our children and grandchildren. Are we working toward a peaceful planet with a healthy environment, or will we still be using up our natural resources too quickly and engaging in political turmoil? These are the things many parents often wonder (and worry) about.

I always felt that when it comes to spending time with my family, quantity time is as important as quality time. It’s not enough to try to jam-pack the time you spend with your family with activities, thinking you’ll make the most out of those few moments by doing a lot of things. Instead, I’d rather cut back on everything else and spend more time with my family, enjoying each moment, even if we are doing nothing more than relaxing together. My older son understands a lot now, so this month I’ve been teaching him to enjoy the outdoors, nature, his environment and planet. We go for walks and learn the names of flowers, visit local parks and bask in the sun. Sometimes I think if we’d all just slow down, and make what we say are our priorities actually our priorities (our health, our children, enjoying life), we’d all be much happier and healthier in general. We’d be more relaxed, have a happier family life, happier marriages, and get more of what matters done. I’d like to teach my sons to enjoy and appreciate each day, the world around them, and the people that matter. What better way to do this then to give the one thing that is most precious- our time.
I like to think if we all would just slow down a bit and focus on enjoying and appreciating our world and the people in it more, it would create a better planet for us and for future generations. Less waste- of resources, time, special moments.
Now, I’m curious. Tell me how you can create a smarter life and better planet, and encourage positive change for generations to come. Comment below to be entered to win a Haier Energy Star Dehumidifier!
