The View From Below #Lumix #Photography

My love for photographing our daily life is contagious, and my son is caught up in my passion. The only thing necessary for a photographic diary of a family’s life is a great camera, such as the Panasonic Lumix G5. It offers 14 creative filters to transform your photos, and this last week I handed my camera over to my son and encouraged him to shoot (I use the term encourage loosely, since he doesn’t need much encouragement). He had a blast and snapped away, wearing the leather camera strap around his neck and propping the camera’s viewfinder to his eye as he went about his business.

I went through his shots, and loved what I found. All I did was set up one of the various creative filters for him before turning it over, and the rest was him. Granted, over 80% of the photos were blurry or out of focus (what did you expect? he’s only three) but some were pretty good, and others total keepers.

Taken with the impressive art filter:

(this is funny, even our trash looks good with the impressive art filter)

Impressive art in monochrome (I didn’t even realize this was an option until I accidentally set it on the touch screen of the Lumix):

The star filter:

One point color:

Dynamic monochrome:

Sepia (that’s me! he was taking pictures from his car seat):

The 14 creative filters include dynamic monochrome, impressive art, one point color, cross process, soft focus, low key, high key, toy effect, star filter, expressive, retro, sepia, high dynamic, and miniature effects.

In addition the the touch screen and awesome creative filters, the Lumix G5 takes sharp shots and includes a slew of great features to make it easy to turn your everyday photos into art (even a three year old can do it!). I love the balance line so I can get my photos straight in camera (straightening pictures in post processing tends to do a number on the picture), and I love how tack sharp my outdoor photos are- awesome!

I don’t know, I think I have a little photographer in the making here. What do you think? Which creative filter do you like best?

All photos taken with the Panasonic Lumix G5 Camera, 14-42mm lens, and various creative filters. We were sent the camera to review, opinions are 100% our own.

  • I’ve been loving playing with those filters too. I had no idea what a difference an effect could make on a shot. Your son did great!

  • Donna

Cool seeing things from his perspective! He did a good job, too… you have a budding photographer there!

  • Those are some great shots!! I like the star filter!

  • I especially love the last one and that you gave him the camera

  • Jenn

The star filter is neat. I’ve never seen anything like that.

  • He has a great eye! Also, I had no clue you could use two filters at one with this camera either! I am going to have to see if I can figure it out now! Your sleeping little one is a great shot!

  • I love the star filter. How cool does that make the pictures look…

  • Love the impressive filter. Such pretty pictures!

  • Mellisa

Great pictures! I need new camera and was actually at Best Buy tonight looking at some. I’ll have to keep my eye out for this brand.

  • Those are some wonderful shots!

  • Penelope

The impressive art filter has a slider on the bottom (on the touch screen) and one end is black and white, the other full color (you can have varied saturation)

  • Ah, okay! Thanks for the tip! This camera has been so much fun to explore!

  • Filters seem to work magic! I just love the photos.

  • That camera takes amazing pictures! Love the monochrome ones.

  • I love that star filter! How perfect for creating a little extra interest in particular shots!

  • Great shots, I’m loving that star filter. Little twinkles in the air:)

  • I love the monochrome that added the pinkish color.

  • I absolutely LOVE filters on a camera I would love to try this one, it looks amazing.

  • Awesome photos and I love the one with the cars. I am still working to get my photos where I want them to be.

  • I so wish I knew as much about photography as you do.

I love playing around with filters. It’s fun to see how many different ways you can present a photograph.
