I no longer watch Academy Award nominated movies. I rarely like them. Instead, I watch movies that friends and family recommend or I hear about through the grapevine, often online. Today I get to share a new family friendly movie, a romantic comedy starring Candace Cameron Bure, Ronny Cox, and David James Elliott.

Cameron Bure plays a marriage counselor who dispenses good marriage advice for struggling couples. She is offered the opportunity to host a relationship talk show based on a great first impression of her marriage and family. The problem? She isn’t married. The family mistakenly believed to be hers belongs to a widowed old college friend, in a moment they happened to run into each other. The two pretend that they are married during a weekend trip with her new boss, and hijinx follows.
The movie is wholesome and filled with silly humor. The two main characters maintain a lie through much of the movie, but feel guilty and try repeatedly to come clean. Truth Be Told is a very family friendly romantic comedy- you don’t have to worry about watching it with young children. It’s a real kick to watch DJ Tanner grown up, too, so if you’re from my generation it’s reminiscent of the humor and light-heartedness of Full House.

It’s not a serious movie- the goal seems to actually be a movie that everyone in the family can watch and enjoy on some level. The most serious portions of the movie are when dad and his daughter need to work out the possibility of him falling in love with someone else after mom died, and really, this can be a serious issue for some families. It’s dealt with very lightly in Truth Be Told, but can be discussed further as a family after the movie if this is an issue being faced.
Truth Be Told premieres on FOX on Saturday, April 16th at 8/7 c, presented by Walmart and P&G.
