The Way Home- Starring Dean Cain~ Review

There are things new parents face that often take them by surprise. For women, it’s the constant worry about their children. Since I had my son, I’ve become sensitive to things I never took notice of before, and became a big worry wart to boot. For men, it’s managing priorities and learning to focus on what is important, especially for men who are used to focusing on their career.

The Way Home, starring Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), is a movie about what happens when a man puts work before family. In the span of the few minutes it takes workaholic Randy Simpkins to check his work e-mail (while on vacation), he loses his son, and thus begins the journey of an entire town to locate the missing two-year-old. One of my worst fears is losing my son, so this movie was very hard to watch for me. Watching the emotions of parents faced with the potential loss of a beloved child was painful. The message was important, however, and it’s this: family comes first.

Themes of faith, community support, and priorities are central in this Christian-themed movie, which is based on the true story of the Simpkins family. Christian movies are traditionally filled with good content, but lacking in production quality and acting, and as a result they tend to not fall into mainstream notice. Luckily, they’ve come a long way as producers realize that we want to see well-made, quality Christian movies that are entertaining/fulfilling. The Way Home is well-made, and an example of how far Christian movies are coming.
