Fireproof – Christian Movie Advocating A Covenant Marriage

I recently read that Kirk Cameron, former teen star of Growing Pains who later married his co-star from that show, Chelsea Noble, is going to star in a new Christian movie called “Fireproof”. I am excited to see it, especially after reading about Kirk Cameron’s views on a covenant marriage on Wikipedia:

Fireproof movieFireproof is the story of a firefighter, Captain Caleb Holt, who lives by the old firefighter’s adage: Never leave your partner behind. But, after seven years of marriage to his wife Catherine, their own relationship is failing. As they prepare to file for divorce, Caleb’s father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day test called “The Love Dare.” Caleb starts it, but more for his father’s sake than for his marriage.

In a scene towards the end when Kirk Cameron’s character kisses his wife, it was shot in shadow, and the actress, Erin Bethea, was replaced by Cameron’s real-life wife, Chelsea Noble, disguised to look like Bethea. This was done because Cameron does not believe he should kiss any woman other than his wife.

I have a great admiration for firefighters, and after reading about Cameron’s integrity in the world of acting and his devotion to his wife, I now have a great admiration for him. I’m sure Cameron’s marital fidelity has limited his options for roles, as many movies today seem to require graphic scenes of intimacy with other actors. I am very much looking forward to seeing this movie when it’s released. In general, I have a great appreciation for the greater quality of Christian movies coming out.

Another great firefighter movie that I would recommend, starring Joaquin Phoenix, is Ladder 49. I watched it some time back with my husband (who was a volunteer firefighter), and we both really enjoyed it.
