We have a pretty window in my office, and I love looking outside while I work. It’s near my desk so anytime I want to sit and look out at the sky, I can. The problem is that I work in my office sometimes late into the evening, and I can’t keep the window open for fresh air without exposing myself to passersby. Anyone can see in, because my office is on the ground floor of our house, but I can’t see out.
When we chose window dressings for our home, we chose what we were used to…simple, pretty blinds that went up and down. We loved the idea of some natural light filtering through and cold and heat insulation, so we chose light filtering honeycomb cellular shades, but we really didn’t think much about privacy. Once the shades were up, we realized we should have considered Top Down Bottom Up Cellular Shades for any room facing a public street, and frankly, for any room period (because people can see into our windows from other homes or our backyard as well). We also have a great hall window by the stair case. It lets me look out every morning when I walk out of my bedroom and see what the weather is like that day. It’s situated a bit off from the staircase so you have to reach over to maneuver any shades (a little precarious, not very safe at all). Even though I wanted to get top down bottom up shades for this window too, so I could see what the day will be like from the top of the window, the idea of someone reaching over to pull the top down and risk falling down the stairs terrified me, so I left it uncovered, but unhappily so.
