The Neato XV-21 Automatic Vacuum @NeatoRobotics

Holiday shopping for everyone else is great, but it’s even more fun when you can do a little shopping for yourself. One of my favorite gift ideas this year is one that saves pretty much everyone time, effort, and money, because we all have to vacuum/clean our floors, or hire someone to. At least, we had to.

The Neato XV-21 Automatic Vacuum Cleaner

There are very few chores that any of us are forced to do anymore, and vacuuming is now one of them. Robotic vacuums aren’t an entirely new idea, but for some reason they aren’t in every home, like a washing machine or dishwasher is, and I can’t help but think it’s because the automatic vacuums that have been available just weren’t as awesome as the Neat XV-21 automatic vacuum cleaner.

You will love the Neato XV-21 Automatic Vacuum Cleaner if:

  • you work outside the home and don’t have a burning desire to come home to more drudgery
  • you’re pregnant and tired
  • you have babies crawling or playing on your floors, making clean floors mandatory
  • you have back problems or arthritis
  • you are a parent or student or person with a full life and schedule and lots of other things to do
  • you have allergies or pets
  • you don’t depend on vacuuming as your sole source of aerobic activity

…pretty much anyone and everyone would love this robotic vacuum, and I can not begin to tell you how much I wish I had it when I was pregnant. If your wife is pregnant, if your mom is tired, if you are just too busy to come home and run a vacuum after a long day of errands or office work, I would really recommend this.

Why I love the Neato XV-21 Automatic Vacuum Cleaner:

  • I can do about 500 things I find more important, and come home to clean floors
  • The Neato doesn’t get tired, and will vacuum for me daily if desired, or can be scheduled for specific days or to vacuum when I’m not home
  • The Neato XV-21 cleans all floors (I tried it on carpet, hardwood floors and tile)
  • It’s powerful, the most powerful suction of any robot vacuum, picking up dirt, debris, hair, and more (it picked up little styrofoam balls and granola in the first pass)
  • It is specifically designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers– my husband has allergies, and the Neato XV-21′s filter holds three times more fine dust particles than standard filters, perfect for removing allergens from the home
  • It’s smart: it knows when it approaches stairs so it won’t fall, it maps out a room to gets every spot (it’s not random, it plans its path so it doesn’t miss anything), and it senses and maneuvers around objects as you can see here:

I tried out the Neato VX-21 automatic vacuum for the first time while I did other chores, and I heard it tirelessly vacuuming my carpets and hardwood floors, returning to recharge and then begin again for hours on end. It got under couches, chairs, tables, without my having to move any furniture. I was supposed to move wires and other items to make it easier for it to work, but I didn’t, and it got around everything just fine. It has a laser eye that uses infrared light to scan its surroundings five times every second, creating a 360° map of the room and obstacles as it plans its path.

It was really accurate. Spooky. Futuristic. Cool.

Since it can be scheduled to clean while you are out of the house, you don’t even have to hear it if you don’t feel like it. You can set it to work every other day, every Monday and Thursday, whatever you want. You won’t have to deal with lugging around a heavy vacuum anymore, struggling to reach under your bed, or just accepting that unreachable areas will never be vacuumed…the Neato XV-21 automatic vacuum will get those hard to reach spots.

Ready to see what we picked up after the first use? It’s gross:

The full extent of my involvement with vacuuming has now become emptying that small dirt bin once every few days and putting it back in the Neato. Which is all the involvement I’ll ever want again.

Check out the Neato XV-21 Automatic Vacuum for more details and find NeatoRobotics on twitter for updates and promotions.

Right now, Neato is offering a facebook contest to win your own robotic vacuum, the same one featured here! How? Dress it up for Halloween and submit your photo here!

I received the Neato XV-21 robot vacuum to facilitate this review, but all opinions are true and 100% my own.

  • It is so futuristic! I couldn’t have one though as my son and dog would freak out.

  • Sadly, mine stopped working for some odd reason. It was awesome while it lasted! 🙁

  • This thing is soo cool!

  • Oh I have one of these coming and can not wait. I’m trying to find things to help keep things cleaner in between cleaning.

  • April Decheine

Umm I so need one of these! My dog sheds so bad I vacuum twice a day.

  • Penelope

Oh my gosh, you do need one! I’d hate to vacuum that often, eek 🙁

  • Penelope

My sons like it 😉 Little man follows it around. I don’t know how a dog would react since I don’t have one, but so far everyone human has been mesmerized, lol.

  • Penelope

Oh no, did you see about having it repaired?

  • No, but I guess should.

  • Leilani

Wow, such a futuristic vacuum. I’ve never seen one of those before.

  • Stefanie

    That’s a cool vacuum!

  • Wow this is so cool!! I could definitely use the housework help! 🙂

  • Wow! I would love this for my house – especially since I have 2 dogs!

  • This is one thing that I definitely have on my wish list. I have tile floors and this would come in so handy every day. Gonna put it on my list for Santa!

  • I need this for my home. Great review!

  • This is really cool! I have to look into it!

  • Mellisa

I have GOT to get one of these things!!

  • Jennifer The Quirky Momma

That is so cool! I would love that for my carpeted upstairs.

  • These things are amazing. I saw them at BlogHer and definitely want one!

  • I’ve wanted the NEATO, seems like it’s a great little robot

  • I totally need one of those!

  • Penelope

That is where I saw it first and I thought they would be amazingly helpful, but actually seeing them in action (not just in a show room floor box, but in the home with furniture and corners and angles)- they are even more amazing, they just get everywhere and are strong. If I were getting married, this would be the first thing I’d register for (well, this and a cappuccino maker, because you know how I am about my morning caffeine)

  • Billie

This is so cool! My dogs would freak out though and with all the animal hair, it would probably have to run all the time.

  • Love my neato vacuum (I’ve affectionately named her Rosie).

  • This would save me so much time – I need to look into one of these and clean while I sleep!

  • Penelope

Now that is an awesome idea! And wake up to a clean house 😉

  • I want one so badly!! How much does it retail for?

  • Penelope

$429 but they sometimes have great promotions (they had one for bloggers that ended in August…maybe they’ll revive it)

  • That is so cool. I want it and a robotic toy picker upper.

  • It moves nice and slowly so it does seem like it cleans thoroughly. I like this!

  • We also have this and have different types of floors throughout the house. I’ve found it does great most of the time, but it’s horrible around the baseboards and anywhere it has to get close to furniture or something. Have you noticed that?

  • Penelope

Is yours squared in the front, or round? I didnt notice a problem (the square shape got into corners, if not on the first pass it would always come back) but an old iRoomba I used to have was round and NEVER got into corners. So far with the furniture it’s been very good too, but it doesnt get under the beds unless I lift the dust ruffles (it senses the dust ruffle as an obstacle with the sensors). When it comes to baseboard, on the first pass it might bump against it as it sensed where it was, then it would pass a second time and glide alongside it perfectly parallel, no bumping and no space, so I think this model is an improved one that is very accurate (and considering how little I want to vacuum, I hope it works well for a long time)

  • It’s the exact same model as yours with the square front. I wonder if something is wrong with mine?
