March Is National Kidney Disease Prevention Month

One in three Americans is at risk for chronic kidney disease, and kidney disease causes more deaths than breast cancer or prostate cancer. It is the ninth leading cause of death in the U.S., and it is estimated that 30 million people in the U.S. are affected by kidney disease but approximately 90% of those affected don’t even know they have it.

Our kidneys are hard workers, two bean-shaped organs filter about 120 to 150 quarts of blood every day to keep you healthy and get rid of waste and toxins that could harm you. We should appreciate our kidneys! March is National Kidney Disease Prevention, and the Mendez National Institute of Transplantation Foundation (MNITF)has created the “Get the Facts! Get Checked! Get Healthy!” PSA which helps the public learn more about kidney disease prevention and the need for organ donation.

DeWayne Cox, a dialysis patient, shares his story:

The Mendez National Institute of Transplantation Foundation (MNITF) is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 1994 that has created the “Get the Facts! Get Checked! Get Healthy!” public serve announcement which delivers a strong call-to-action about kidney disease prevention, the need for organ donation, and the importance of learning more via research, education and innovation at FixingPaco.org.

April is National Donate Life Month

You can make a difference in the life of someone who is suffering from kidney disease or kidney failure today. Text the word KIDNEY to 21000 to make a tax-deductible donation of any amount to MNITF, which will help kidney and pancreas recipient like Claudia Sanchez:

Remember to appreciate your kidneys, take care of them, and help those you need you!
