A Legacy Of Strength & Love #MyUnstoppableMom

This is a partnered post with Children’s MOTRIN

Moms may not see themselves as extraordinary, but that doesn’t mean their children don’t. If we saw ourselves through our children’s eyes, we’d realize all those late nights rubbing his back when he’s sick, afternoons spent cheering from the sidelines when she makes the shot (and when she doesn’t), and days reading together, coloring, playing, laughing… all those moments mean a lot to a child who looks at his mom with the thought “My Unstoppable Mom”.

Many of us have someone who inspired us, whether a mother, grandmother, or another woman who displayed unique, unstoppable powers of love and sacrifice. My grandmother was an inspiration for me. She was the mother of ten, and traveled across an ocean when she was 30 to start a new life in a new country with a new language and new dreams. Throughout it all, she never quit. She was patient, kind, she sacrificed, she told great stories and made the best homemade bread. She taught me how to knit and to always have faith, and she was an incredible light to those fortunate enough to love her, especially by the man she was married to for 70 years until he died.

My grandmother didn’t know how to read or write, but she raised a large family and eventually saw 23 grandchildren and over 30 great grandchildren before passing away at 98. She baked bread and knitted us brightly colored booties every winter until her arthritis wouldn’t let her anymore, and she told us stories about her childhood and life through wars and hard village life. She embodied perseverance, love, and a strong heart. Her legacy is her many children and grandchildren who also persevere and love (almost) as strongly as she did. I still think about her often and how lucky we were to have her.

Children’s MOTRIN® is honoring women like her, moms who are unstoppable, with the My Unstoppable Mom program. Campaign spokesperson Kelly Ripa is encouraging moms to visit MyUnstoppableMom.com with your child so you can create your own My Unstoppable Mom book cover that celebrates the ways in which your children see you as unique and unstoppable. I spoke with Kelly (as did little man) and she let me know that my son sees me as his Safari Bug Catching Mom. Very cool!
