A Holiday In New York

Travel is best when it’s authentic and offers a real taste of local flavor. I love to visit places and stay in venues that highlight what is best about the region, and eat foods that resonate with locals, and enjoy the attractions that makes the area famous.

We recently returned to Manhattan for our annual Christmas in New York visit, and stayed at The Roger, a boutique hotel on Madison Avenue that is close to everything. We were within walking distance of the Empire State Building and Macy’s Herald Square, and a short cab ride from Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden, so had two days to enjoy a taste of New York City when it’s most magical… the weeks before New Year’s Eve.

A boutique experience

The Roger faces the Empire State Building, so we had a direct view from our room of the famous building lit up in purple and blue. We spent our first evening walking around enjoying our beloved city before returning that evening for some dinner.

Inside our double bed hotel room we were offered amenities such as free WiFi, a flat screen TV, an à la carte snack bar, bathrobes, and C.O. Bigelow toiletries. There is also a 24 hour fitness center and an overnight complimentary shoe shine service available, plus other high level services.

We had a fabulous dinner as a family in The Parlour Bistro, which offers a delicious menu for New Yorkers and visitors, and lots of great finger foods that kids would love- think steak sandwiches, housemade guacamole, mini burgers, salads, and tuna soft tacos… they hit all the right spots and use high quality ingredients. The Burger is awesome!

Honor your wanderlust

While staying in Manhattan, we strolled outdoors through the excited crowds of tourists, and took in the Radio City Music Halls’ Christmas Spectacular Show in its final week… and it was truly spectacular! My kids loved it too, and I can see why they are overfilled for every show every season- the Rockettes were terrific.

The Roger is housed inside a landmark building and is located at the intersection of uptown and downtown NYC, making it ideal for both business travelers and tourists. They hold monthly Tasting Events for their guests and the community in the lobby, and while we were there a wine-tasting was offered.

The Roger also offer luxurious Terrace Rooms with landscaped terraces that have extraordinary panoramic city views and the opportunity to privately stroll outside your room for some fresh air – think honeymoon or romantic getaway ♥︎ You can find those directly here.

Coming to New York this year? Welcome, there is so much to do and see!
